Timothy Hopkins Obituary

Father Timothy Alban Hopkins
May 31, 1955 - November 2, 2011
Miami
Reverend Father Timothy Alban Hopkins died at his rectory in Miami, Florida, on November 2, 2011, Feast of All Souls.
Father Hopkins was born in Epping, near London, England, on May 31, 1955. An Anglican clergyman, Father Hopkins converted to the Catholic Faith and was ordained to the priesthood on December 8, 1984. After time spent in Ghana and Nigeria, he began his ministry in defense of Catholic Tradition in Miami in 1989, where he was the Administrator of the Shrine of St Philomena in Little Havana.
Father Hopkins will be remembered for his dry English wit, his love of dogs, his kindness as a confessor, his zeal for souls, his generosity to the poor, his devotion to Our Lady and the Rosary, his love of the Roman Liturgy and his defense of the sanctity of human life. He is survived by his mother Betty and sister Carolyn ("Rosie"). His apostolate in Miami, according to his wishes, will be continued by the priestly Society of St Pius X.
The Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Marc Vernoy SSPX on Monday, November 7th at the Shrine of St Philomena. Father Hopkins was buried next to his father George Hopkins at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Miami.

Fr Tim and I were friends since we were both Anglican seminarians in England. He wanted me to come over to preach at his Silver Jubilee Mass, but alas my health prevented me from making the journey. something I shall always deeply regret. I still can't believe what's happened, and that I shall never find his emails awaiting me again, but it's a great consolation to read all these moving testimonies from those to whom he was a pastor. Rest in peace, Tim. And pray for me.

O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Fr. Timothy Hopkins, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name. We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors. This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

Father Hopkins and I shared many thoughts on the various problems within the Church since Vatican II. But, not all our face to face and e-mail discussions were "heavy".
I appreciated the lighter side of his personality. We always seemed to find something to "lighten" matters up, something to laugh about.
We especially had a common bond in our love of DOGS, Butterflies, and plants.
I MISS MY FRIEND!!

Father Hopkins was instrumental in helping my Father save his soul. My husband and I living in Australia, called Fr. Hopkins to go to Boca Raton because my Father was dying. My father was hesitant to confess, but Father Hopkins made a deal with him, no matter what he did, he would only give him 3 hail Mary's. My father did go after 50 years and afterward told Fr. Hopkins that he would like to hire him because if he could get him to confess, he could sell anyone anything. Last I spoke to him he said, "God has a sense of humour". Fr. Hopkins Ora Pro NObis. With my prayers also,
Love Renee and Rory Donnellan and 5 children.

Pax et Bonum! Peace and good! We will never be able to say enough prayers in gratitude for Father Timothy Hopkins' labor of love in Miami; for all the good he did and all the blessings he brought to the people of South Florida. He baptized me and many of my brothers and sisters. He gave me my First Holy Communion and he will live on in our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers as a kind and loving shepherd who did his best to care for his sheep.

Long Live Christ the King! Love Live Mary Queen! Long Live Father Hopkins, our pastor, our friend! We love you and miss you dearly, Father.

My family and I are deeply disturbed with the announcement of Father Timothy's dead. He baptized my gran daughter and my gran son. We loved his humble church and the way he used to teach the Word of God
We are sure that his soul will be resting in peace, close to Our God that he loved so much.

Being a fellow priest devotee of St. Philomena, over the years I have kept up with Father Hopkins and his wonderful priestly ministry in Miami through the Shrine's website. May Our Lady and St. Philomena bring this holy priest into the peace and joy of heaven. I will offer three holy Masses for his happy repose, and the consolation of his mother and sister, as well as his parishioners.

Requiescat in pace.

We met father Hopkins at St. Philomena two years ago, since the first celebration we experienced the solemnity of a true catholic mass and its great significance. We greatly regret to loose a saintly priest who made a difference in our faith and religious belief.
We will always remember him for his total dedication to God, his Church and all the faithful members. His smile, good sense of humor and generosity wil live forever in our hearts,
Sincerely,
Adriano and Carolina

Being a lover of Santa Philomena, several years ago I came upon the Shrine of St. Philomena in Miami, online, and thus, was honored to have spoken with beloved Fr. Hopkins. I always wanted to go to the Shrine, as Fr. had so many wonderful devotions, but sadly, never made it. He alive was in my prayers at every Mass I attended, now in death, he will be another "PRIEST FOREVER" in my prayers. I will have a Mass said for him.
My deepest condolences to his beloved mom & family.
ALL MY LOVE, PRAYERS & DEEPEST SYMPATHIES...
