VERNON MEADOWS JARED

JARED, VERNON MEADOWS, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2011. He was born June 24th, 1932, in Paris, IL to Wilbur and Irma (née Ferguson) Jared. He proudly served 4 years in the US Navy at NAAS Whiting Field in Milton, FL as an Aviation Machinist's Mate, 2nd Class during the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge, he attended Eastern Illinois University, where he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He was a Master Carpenter and Industrial Arts teacher at Miami Sr. High from 1962 until his retirement in 1996. He had a life-long passion for auto racing and was a longtime member of the Florida SCCA, having held a National Stewards License. Other hobbies included skin-diving and golfing. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julie (née Evans) Jared; daughter, Jana Leigh Jared (Vickie Amiel); siblings, Elisabeth Bennett (Richard) of Glen Mills, PA, Charles Jared (Patsy) of Paris, IL and James Jared (Sue) of Waverly, TN and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews. Memorial Visitation will be held at Stanfill Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM on June 1st, 2011 with Military Honors at 7 PM. The spreading of his ashes will be held in Highlands, NC at later date.
