David Russin Obituary

RUSSIN, DR. DAVID. The Mount Sinai Medical Center Family pays tribute to Dr. David Russin, a member of the Founders of Mount Sinai and a longtime physician at our hospital. Dr. Russin joined our medical staff as a general surgeon in 1970 and was highly regarded throughout his tenure for his professionalism, medical expertise and warm demeanor. He retired from active practice at Mount Sinai in 1996 and remained a member of the Emeritus medical staff until the time of his death. Dr. Russin is one of three members of his family to serve on our medical staff. His twin brother, Dr. Michael Russin, is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Sinai and a member of the Founder's Club, and their father, the late Dr. Lester Russin, served as director of orthopaedics from 1961 to 1977. In addition, Dr. Russin's legacy of supporting Mount Sinai continues through his children and their spouses, Julie and Jeffrey Bercow; Peter and Andi Russin; and Elisabeth and Gareth Turner. All of us at Mount Sinai extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Russin's family and his friends. He leaves a legacy of helping others through his kindness and generosity, and he will always have a special place in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dave and Lynn, and Julie, Peter, and Elizabeth were our neighbors and friends at Sheperd Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Tx, 1967-69. So sorry to just learn of their passing. A very grown up 7 year old Julie escorted Peter and my two sons to the cartoons on Saturday mornings!

My heart is so full of love for David, Lynn and family. It was my great fortune to have worked for David many years ago and it was one of my favorite gigs. David was such a mensch. We had a wonderful, educational and moving friendship, even going back to attending Seder with David, Lynn, the kids, Michael and father Lester. No one could have loved him more than his family, and I felt included at all times. Although I moved on, my affection for all the Russins never wavered. Please celebrate his life, as will I. My heart is with you all. I consider myself blessed to have passed through your family's life, and they through mine.

Not only was Dr. Russin my mentor he was my Surgeon and my friend. As a surgical resident he taught me how to be a compassionate, caring physician and I will always be grateful for his advice and teaching. He was my surgeon when I needed emergency surgery as a second year resident. May his family be comforted.

My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the family of David J. Russin. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I knew Dave when he was a student in my Finance class in the Healthcare Executive MBA Program at the University of Miami in the late 1980's and we've remained friends since. We was smart, witty, warm, and most engaging! I will carry many fond memories of him the rest of my life! Rest well my friend!
