Roberta Ward Decker Bergmann Obituary
She was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Sept. 11, 1921, to Emma Lyle (Anderson) and Robert A. Ward. At the age of 18 months, her Aunt Ella and Walter Decker took her to raise as their own child.
She graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in Riverside, Calif., in June of 1939.
She returned to the Klamath Falls area to live on the Lost River Ranch. It was at this time that she met and married Lawrence Bergmann in Reno, Nev. They had three children, who survive, Eleanor Zuliani, of Las Vegas, Nev., David Bergmann of Salem, Ore., and Linda Bergmann of Florence, Ore., with whom Roberta shared a loving life. She also has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband Lawrence preceded her in death in 1984. They were married for 47 years.
During her adult years, she held many jobs as a bookkeeper in the auto industry and as head cashier for Sears for several years.
As a hobby, Roberta raised poodles, which developed into the Prim Poodle Grooming and Pet Shop, a business she had for 15 years. After the business was sold and Lawrence was retired from the Oregon State Police, they moved to Florence on the Oregon Coast, where Roberta has lived since 1978.
When she was 60 years old, she went back to school and achieved her certification as a floral designer. She worked for many years for Hiatt's Flower Shop.
Roberta has been very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and was a life member for 27 years. She was also a 40-year member of Daughters of the Nile, Zulema Temple.
Graveside services will be held in Klamath Falls in the Masonic Section of Eternal Hills Cemetery at the family plot. Burn's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held at Eternal Hills on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Florence Relay for Life or Grand Chapter of Oregon O.E.S. Cancer Research.
