Kenny "Otis" Ellis

1935 - 2017

ELLIS, Kenny "Otis," age 81 of Sewanee, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was born in Franklin County on Dec. 31, 1935, to the late William and Mary Ricketts Ellis. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1968 in both Korea and Vietnam before retiring as a Manager from GTE Telecommunications in Northlake, Illinois. Kenny was an avid bowler and he loved to tell jokes and play the lottery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Morris Ellis; son, Kenneth Ellis; sisters, Clara Gracey and Katherine Malawy; brothers, Sam Ellis and Donald Ellis; and sisters-in-law, Bessie Morris and Mary Tatum. Kenny is survived by his son, Tim (Sue) Garner of Sewanee; daughter, Mary Beth (Mark) Tytus of Roselle, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Valeria Ellis of Atoka, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Andrew Malawy of Wood Dale, Illinois; brother, Ed (Sharon) Ellis of Grayslake, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Brenda Johnson, Katherine Posey, Roxy Johnson, Jean Morris, and Jannie Throneberry; grandchildren, Anna Tytus, Luke Tytus, Zackrey Garner, Austin Garner, Mitchell Garner, April McElhenie and James Ellis; great-grandchildren, Justin McElhenie and Darik McDaniel; great friend, Chuck Stines; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family was held on Sun-day, June 25, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 26, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastern Star Cemetery with military honors bestowed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alvin C.
