Bernice Newcomb

1914 - 2012

DENTON - Bernice Newcomb, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.

Mrs. Newcomb was born November 2, 1914 in Sherman, the daughter of Lawrence and Nannie (Cruse) Proffitt. She married the love of her life, Donald P. Newcomb in Durant, Oklahoma. She was the chief water department clerk for City of Denison for 29 years before retiring. She was residing at Lake Forest Good Samaratin in Denton, where she lived independently until her passing. Bernice loved the Lord and had been a member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Denison, Texas. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister. Bernice will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Newcomb is survived by her beloved family: daughters, Carol Taylor of Richardson, Texas and RosAnn Reynolds of Pottsboro, Texas; sisters, Betty Harvey of Sherman, Texas and Wanda Melton of Norman, Okla.; grandsons, Mark Taylor and wife, Teresa of Sachse, Texas and Gary Taylor and wife, Marcee of Ridgewood, N.J.; granddaughter, Nancy LeFleur of Denton, and Amy Edney of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Katie Kane, Jessica Kane, Etienne LeFleur, Caroline Taylor, William Taylor, Madeline Taylor, Cory Edney, Matthew Edney, Andrew Edney and Samuel Edney; and great-great-grandson, Caidyn Kane. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Dock Newcomb, son-in-law, Richard Taylor, great-grandson, Edouard LeFleur and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Karen DeFlippis officiating. Private interment will be held in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Family visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday.
