George Montgomery Obituary

DENISON - George K. Montgomery, Sr., 82, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at Beacon Hill Nursing Home in Denison.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2011 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel, with Todd Catteau officiating. Pallbearers will be Sheppard AFB Honor Guard.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 1501 N. State Hwy. 91, Denison, Texas 75020.
George was born May 27, 1928 in Louin, Mississippi, the son of William Tolbert Montgomery (1896-1988) and Leila Mae Shoemaker (1904-1978), both of Louin, Mississippi. He married Lillie La Verne Bruce February 2, 1952 in Denison, Texas.
He retired from the USAF at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt.); was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars; last two major commands were the 39th Air Rescue Squadron Cam Ranh AB, Vietnam and HQ ARRS (Air Rescue and Recovery Service) Scott AFB, Illinois; he retired in 1975, after 27 years of service. In 1996, he retired from Modern Exploration, Inc., Sherman, Texas as Senior Vice President.
He enjoyed family and friends; cook outs; his vegetable garden; fixing anything that needed fixing; loved watching his grandkids grow up, and, of course, football.
He is survived by children George Koehiel Montgomery Jr. and wife Donna of Allen, Texas, Lonnie Edwin Montgomery of Coppell, Texas; grandchildren Kristopher George Montgomery and wife Teri of Bonham, Texas, Landon Tolbert Montgomery and wife Rachel of Coppell, Texas, Stacy LeAnn Adams and husband Christopher of Anna, Texas, Gerad Keith Montgomery of Carrollton, Texas, Joshua Samuel Montgomery of Coppell, Texas; siblings Wilma Imogene Leavitt and husband Sidney "Ray" of Bay Springs, Mississippi, Ora Aliqueen Gibson of Augusta, Georgia, Ina Lynn McLelland and husband Douglas of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; in-laws (brother and sister) Ronnie and Ginger Bruce of Denison, Texas, Linda and Ken Bell of Denison, Texas; eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Tolbert Edwin Montgomery of Louin, Mississippi (1938-1940), Leila Wyvonna Harrison of Ocala, Florida (1924-2003), Grace Gwendolyn Harper of Kirbyville, Texas (1926-1997)
