This message is to Sam. Dear friend, you would not believe how often we talk of you and your many exploits!
You were a wonderful neighbor and if being remembered in your old neighborhood gives you comfort that your spirit lives on - believe me, it does.

I met Smyth not Smith in the early 80s when I was a facilities electrician. He was the big boss and he always took time to stop by me in his cart to see what we were up to and if we needed any help. He would ask about my family and make sure everything was okay. This was a big deal as we mostly tried to avoid the bosses at work but not Smyth, we had a lot of respect for him and his position. A lot of the reasons I went into management myself was because of men like him who reached out to the workers and was there with a smile( you know that smile) to help and to throw tool bags or parts into his cart to get to the other side of the factory. His leadership and attitude was only 2nd to his kindness.

All three brothers are now gone. Sam was the youngest. Sam did bring many of us together in life and death. Nothing like the Beaver Lake crew and the Country Cousins getting together. Much love and laughs.

Although I did not see him often, I cherished the good times I'd had with Sam, starting when I was a little kid and he would ride my brother and me around his folks' place in Kent in his Model T (or whatever it was) rumble seat. I also remember at least one July 4th fireworks show he and his brothers put on. And, of course, the trips with Dad to visit the two of you on Camano. Dad cherished those trips and others when I was not present. He raved about Barbara's cooking, Sam's craftsmanship with the trunks and the fellowship with his nephew(s). One of my best memories was when we'd both been there and Sam sent coolers of crab with us. Turned out my flight home the next day was seriously delayed. I checked my luggage and the crab and went back to Wesley where Dad was sponsoring a crab feed with a few of his friends. So, I pigged out, went back to the airport and arrived home with the crab very late that night. Crab was in perfect condition thanks to Sam'e excellent packing. More pig-out in Texas!
Most of all I will miss the sunny and generous soul that inhabited a beautiful Puget Sound place where he always made his Texas cousin feel welcome.

Thank you everyone for all your kind and wonderful words. My family, wife Julie, and sons Cody and Tyler are going to miss the stories my father would share on our visit's. That man could tell a story. I miss our many conversations, and all the advise he shared that I never listened too. I know he's in a better place now, doing all the things he lost the abilities to do his last year. He's once again is with his brother Gordon. Thank you Barb for the great care you took of Sam over the many years you to spent together. Dad, you are truly missed.
I love you.

My sincerest condolences to all of Sam's family members. I'm sorry that I was unable to attend the memorial but was able to visit with Sam and Barbara earlier this year. Sam was a wonderful soul. Spirited, kind, humorous and generous are just a few traits that come to mind. Growing up with his mother Florence holds a special place in my heart. Santa Sam ever the goofball made the family Christmas gatherings so special. Sam, you're entertaining all of the angels.

We will always have fond memories of Sam on trips to Montana with Barb. He was so interesting to listen to and always had a glimmer in his eye. His getting the cork out of the bottle trick was the best! Grandpa Johnny got the biggest kick out of Sam...I'm sure they are back together again!! Barb and family are in our thoughts.

So long Sam. My memories go back 80 years to when our families were intertwined in the early years in Rainier Valley. Cousins we were with many intersections over the years. Lately the connections have been about saying goodbye to the older generation with a lot to ponder on those occasions. My favorite memory is a Christmas gathering at your parents, my Aunt Florence and Uncle Bob's place when we all had small kids and Sam, dressed as Santa, didn't exactly fool many, but was a very jolly presence passing out presents. The memory makes me smile right now. I like to think of you having a similarly good time right now at the meet and greet in the great beyond. Hope to see you there cuz. Wishing peace of mind to all your family.

Barbara has created the opportunity to share "The Story of Sam" this Sunday on Camano Island. I look forward to seeing Sam more clearly through the stories you all can share at the memorial. Please feel free to write your story if you choose not to speak. I will collect them at the memorial and compile them for the family.

Sam has left quite a legacy both inside as well as outside of Boeing. He was a great leader who knew how to inspire those around him and make them feel important. He was a great influence on me as well as many others in my early years at Boeing and I used to love to watch his facial expressions in meetings, he would get that sly smile on his face like he knew soomething you did not (and he usually did).. Shane, my thoughts and prayers will be for you and your brother and sister.

I'll never forget a speech Sam made @ a crew award dinner @ Boeing in the early 90's. He told stories of different work related scenario's. After each story, he would pause dramatically,, and Say.. Change.. Change.. Change.. It was brilliant and very inspirational. I still think about it till this day. What a Legend Sam is at Boeing.

Shane and family,
Your dad was the most down to earth kind of person. Always with a sly kind of smile and a pat on the shoulder. He always made you feel special in some sort of way. The world needs more people/personalities like your dad. A pleasure to have known him. I trust your memories wrap you in comfort.

I was so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I first met him in 1981 when he was my General at Boeing. Years later I ran into him in what was called "the "Wire Shop". He was a good leader and knew how make his employees feel valued. Rest in peace Sam.

Sam Was A Great Person that cared about his people whom worked with him and around him. He had a very unique way of showing his acceptance of you as a individual. He would stand behind you while you were sitting in a meeting and put both hands on your shoulders and give you a good squeeze letting you know that he had you back. He was always one that you could count on and the same that we gave back to him, a bond of friendship and a true bond of trust. I am glad I had the Opportunity to have met Sam and to have been on his Management Team for Boeing. Thanks for being a part of my life Sam. My thoughts and Prayers to his Family. He will truely Be Missed

We will always remember Sam wearing bib overalls while driving his tractor pulling crabbing gear and chewing on an unlit cigar. His joy of life was obvious to everyone he greeted on the way to the beach launching site.
Peace and love to all his family and friends as we mourn his sudden passing and celebrate his accomplished life.
