Lorraine Borders Obituary

Untitled

Lorraine "Bill" Borders

Lorraine "Bill" Borders, born in Marysville, Washington, on October 27, 1917, to Frank and Edythe Hilton. Her dad's first words to her were "Hi Bill" and most have called her Bill ever since. She lived nearly all of her life in Marysville, and died peacefully at home on April 3, 2006.
Bill graduated from Marysville High School, in 1935, and moved to Seattle, Washington, to attend Business College. She later worked in Seattle as a bookkeeper at Safeco Insurance and General Construction Company. She met Donald R. "Bob" Borders while he was stationed at Paine Field in the Army Air Corps, and they were married November 3, 1942. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before Bob died in 1995. Bill was an avid gardener, crossword puzzler, adventurous traveler, bridge player, investor and 30-year cancer survivor. She served as Marysville City Treasurer from the mid 1960s to the 70s.
She leaves her loving family, daughters, Mary (Scott) Kirkland, and Melissa Borders; granddaughter, Katie Kirkland; sister, Bette Carpenter; nieces, Sally (Tim) Lauren, and Cindy (Joe) Divita; great-nephews and great-nieces, Joseph, Jacqueline, Victoria and Natalie Divita, and Chris and Beth Lauren; and her much-loved Hilton relatives and cousins in Victoria, B.C., Canada. She had many cherished friends and was especially close to Roberta Mallozzi, Pat Branstetter, and neighbors, Wally Bradt and Debbie, Rod, Cody and Carley Waters.
She was able to live happily at home sharing her days with her special friend and caregiver, Encar Teodoro. Her family also appreciates the loving care given to her by Nicole Williams and Ana Vic Javier.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville.
Remembrances may be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.

She was a very special lady and I will miss her. I enjoyed our yearly visits for the past 18 years when she would come to our office (Graham & Associates). My caring thoughts are with the family.

I send these condolences on behalf of my Dad, Loyal Smoke. My parents so enjoyed the friendship of Bill and Bob and appreciated their traveling to Wisconsin in 1992 to help celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Mom died in 2003, Dad, at 88 still lives in the Cedar Crest Retirement Home in Janesville and enjoys life. Please accept the sympathy from the Smoke family.
