Carole Ingram Obituary

Carole Leigh Ingram, 68, of Marysville, Washington died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 23, 2014. She was surrounded by her family, with her beloved cat Lily at her side. Carole Leigh was born to Harold and Ella Fitch on January 1, 1946, the first day of the Baby Boom generation. Carole Leigh was raised in and spent her entire life as a proud resident of Marysville. Throughout her youth, she was an avid roller skater and talented pianist. At Marysville High School she made numerous friendships that endured throughout her lifetime, and served as captain of the Tommiettes Drill Team. In 1968 she graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in education. Carole Leigh married Brent Ingram in June 1969. Carole Leigh was a career elementary school teacher in the Marysville school district, spending her last 20 years teaching 1st grade at Cascade Elem-entary. She loved teaching and impacted generations of students who have gone on to make their mark in the world. Carole Leigh was also proud of serving on the school district's collaborative collective bargaining committee. During her career, Carole Leigh became deeply involved in Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary altruistic sorority for women educators. As a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, she served as the Washington State President, Inter-national Vice President, and as a member of the International Executive Board. Most importantly, Carole Leigh fostered deep and meaningful friendships with women in this organization from across the country. Throughout all her activities, her family was the most important part of her life. Her love, kindness, and generosity were felt on a daily basis. She was the consummate hostess and delighted in decorating her home and preparing meals for her family. Carole Leigh was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She leaves behind Brent, her husband of 45 years; son, Tyler (Jillian), daughter, Marisa; mother, Ella; brother, Ken; and numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold. If you were fortunate enough to know Carole Leigh, you'll remember her kind and loving heart - never failing to put others ahead of herself. She had the gentlest of spirits, but was tough as nails and courageous throughout the past five years of her illness. Carole Leigh had a keen interest in the world and a joy for learning and discovery. She will be sorely missed, but we take comfort in knowing how many lives she touched, and how many friends she had who loved her as we did. Thank you all who have supported her through the last five years - your love, caring, and encouragement meant more to her, and to us, than you can possibly know. We'd also like to extend a special thank you to the health care professionals who provided her such compassionate and exceptional care. Her life was shorter than we'd have liked - but it was full to brimming with community, friendship, adventure and love. A celebration of Carole Leigh's life will be held on November 8, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Marysville Opera House at 1225 3rd St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or the Providence Regional Cancer Part-nership. Her family also encourages people to sign up as a potential bone marrow donor through bethematch.org.

I first knew her as Miss Fitch at Pinewood Elementary. And then she got married! It was special to see your favorite teacher get married and change her name.

Ah. I am so sad to learn of Carole's passing, as I have apparently waited far too long to try to reconnect with her. She was my favorite teacher from Pinewood Elementary. She taught 4th grade that year, 1973. I think she would have remembered me, but maybe not, since it had been 40 years and a thousand students later. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, her family and friends. She had a large impact on a little girl with very little self esteem those many years ago, and I've no doubt also on many similar girls and boys in the years since.

Brent, Marisa and Tyler--I first knew Carole Leigh as the best 1st grade teacher my daughter could have ever had--Go Ingram Tigers! Later, after getting on staff at Cascade, I learned first hand how gracious and strong a woman she was. Joining ADK was mainly due to CL's gentle guidance, and I will miss her sweet smile and encouraging words every day. God bless you all!

Carole was loved by thousands of students and hundreds of colleagues. She was a "gem" of a teacher and a warm person who always had a smile on her face. It was my honor to have had the pleasure of working with her as an educator.

I first met Carole Leigh at an ADK meeting, and later, when I brought a baby lamb to her classroom for the children. She was a wonderful teacher. Later, in ADK, I found out what a wonderful and gracious person she was. We kept in touch at ADK conventions. There was a "big hole in the old herd" at Wyoming this year when she wasn't present. I wrote her and found out how ill she was. We will sure miss her. Brent, my fondest condolences to you, but Carole Leigh is running through heaven, planning a banquet and petting a beautiful kitty. Love and condolences to your entire family.

Brent and Family, we are so saddend by the passing of Carole-Leigh. She was such a courageous and determined person. She had such great compassion and caring for others. We watched with awe as she battled this disease and shared in her triumphs and the grace she showed when things weren't so good. She will be missed. She was a great Lady. Carole Leigh was one of my favorite people to reunite with at ADK functions. Gracious, fun and beautiful. I first met her when we were "rookie" teachers at Pinewood Elementary School. She will be missed by many people and I send my prayers to her family.

Ella,I was so saddened to learn of Carole Leigh's death. Some of my fondest memories of Carole Leigh, Janet and myself are the times we all skated together at the Marysville Skating Rink (now it's it Marysville Opera House). Things sure go full circle don't they? I will miss her, but those memories will take away some of the pain. Your niece, Susan.

Tyler and Marisa,
I was fortunate to teach both of you at Marysville Junior High at the beginning of my career. I remember meeting your mother and being struck by how kind and gracious she was. Having lost my own husband a few years ago, I know some of the pain your family is experiencing. May you feel God's comfort in very real ways.

We never got to see Carole Leigh 'at work', either on the job or in the home, but we have no doubt as to her genuine humanity, to her dedication to those who depended on her and a comfort of who she was and meant to others. Our most heart-felt condolences to her family who can bask in the pride of having filled so much of her heart. You will miss her, but are blessed with so much you can remember forever.

Carol Leigh, due to another loved cousin became a vital link in reconnecting me to a part of the family that had a profound impact on me in the 1940's. It's almost as if I had known her in person, and it's deep regret that it didn't work out! Duane Waln

I have admired Carole Leigh from the first time I met her in 1972. She was one of the best teachers I have ever had the honor to work with. I will always cherish our "cat" talks. We were both proud to admit that we kissed them on the whisker area. Carole Leigh will never be forgotten, she has enriched so many, many us lives.
