Eli Pennell Obituary

Eli Gene Pennell Eli Gene Pennell, age 77, passed away at home in Snohomish, Wash., on the farm where he lived for 71 wonderful years. Born in Baldwin Park, California in 1938 to Joseph and Dora Pennell, Eli enlisted in the United States Navy at age 20 for three years of service. He joined the Navy in hope of seeing the world. It was a long-standing joke when he ended up stationed on Whidbey Island! Eli and his wife of 58 years, Norma Pennell, were married on December 21,1957. Retired from Scott Paper Company in Everett after 29 fruitful years, Eli had a passion for travel and he and Norma loved visiting places around the world, even passing through the Panama Canal. As a private pilot, he also owned several airplanes throughout the years and once flew above the Arctic Circle. Eli is also survived by his sister, Fern Pennell; his son, Alan Pennell (wife Debbie); his daughters, Elaine Pennell, and Barb Hendee (husband John); his grandchildren, Jessica Pennell, Joseph Pennell, and Jaclyn Zappone; his great-grandchild, Harper Zappone; and many lifelong friends. In lieu of a service, and at Eli's request, a celebration of life will be held for family and friends. Eli's wish was that all who attend wear casual and happy attire. Please contact the family for details. The family thanks The Everett Clinic staff involved with Eli's care, Providence Hospice and Home Care Foundation of Snohomish County, and the countless number of friends who helped Eli and Norma throughout the years. Donations can be sent to, Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County. www.providence.org/phhc

Norma, We want you to know you are not forgotten. We are sorry we were unable to attend the "Celebration of Life" you had for Eli. I can just see him sitting there with that devilish smile on his face, taking in all that was said about him. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He was so kind, soft spoken, and very talented. I'm sure he is now out of pain and resting peacefully. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

I want to let the Pennell family know my thoughts are with them. My sister Deb married into a great family and I'm fortunate to be a part of that. I'll miss Eli.

Eli left his family and friends for a new home where he is now pain free. He did not leave without sharing his positive influence with family, friends, service to his country and being an exemplary example of how to live a kind, gentle, successful, and a beautiful spirit filled life.
Those of us who grew up with Eli, who were blessed with many years of his friendship and love, by his many talents, and appreciation for life, are saddened by his departure from us. We have lost a Dear Friend, who blessed so many by his life and the way he lived it. Indeed it is the testimony of a man filled with love, humility, and many talents who was a positive influence to all who knew him. You are going to be greatly missed Dear Friend and Classmate.
Our sincere condolences to you Norma and your extended family.

Dearest Pennell Family,

Norma and Eli welcomed our sister into their family over 35 years ago when we also had the very good fortune for Al to become our brother. Although we've had the pleasure of meeting Norma, Eli, Barb, and Elaine on only a few occasions, the Pennell family has been and remains so very important to our family.

Please know Eli and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers and we also celebrate his memory and very full life. Rest in peace, Eli.

Our sincere condolences,

Bill & Dar Waldron

Eli was a very gentle soul and we loved him dearly. We will miss his smile and phone calls. We will never forget his flying us to Longview when our dad was passing. He had a twinkle in his eye even as aa teenager and with Norma raised a wonderful family. Rest in peace free of pain and breathe easy. God bless, Ray and Kayo Jones

Eli will be very missed by his family.
We know he is out there driving a fantastic car, or flying the airplane of his choice!
I am forever grateful to Eli for the amazing son he raised that I'm so proud to call my husband.
Rest in peace, Eli.
Love,
Debbie
