I listened to Dolly Parton yesterday, and my mind was flooded with memories of Grandpa Ed... and painting my first house ten years ago! What a man he was. When I brought out the CD player and put Dolly on he started belly laughing and said "I just love Dolly!" and we spend the next few hours singing songs and painting. Grandpa had an amazing life and literally impacted more people that I think could ever be counted. Everyone I meet has an "Ed" story. Isabella and Kira were telling me their favorite memories of Grandpa was when he would sneak them into his shop to have a soda and play with the cars. They will remember him with love, as will I, and as will everyone whos lives he touched. You will be forever missed Grandpa, and you will live on in our hearts. We love you.

Grandpa,
I miss you so much today. I feel like I will never feel the same way again. You are the person who always has been there for me and the kids. You always tell me how proud you are of me. I will cherish the Root tootin fig newton, Mcdonalds monopoly game, port susan, many trips, our casino days, the hardware days and every other day we had together. Nico and Aly are so lucky they had you in there life. Thanks for helping me figure out who will ride the river with me and who wont. I love you forever and I will never forget you Grandpa.

Uncle Ed was a very easy going man. I don't think I have ever seen him angry with anyone. He was easy to talk to and a very hard working man. When my family moved from Monroe to Forks, I was 10 years old. My Uncle Ed and Aunt Sis would let Leslie and I come and stay for a week or so in the summer. We would fight over who got to be first to stay. I had a lot of good memories staying with Uncle Ed and Aunt Sis. The farm was so much fun and so much to do. Aunt Sis would make pancakes in the morning for Uncle Ed and the rest of us if we got up in time. I tried to learn how to ride a horse by myself, but never quite could. Uncle Ed tried to help me ride Old Babe she was about 25 years old, but he had to hold the reins and lead me around the farm. I was too scared to ride by myself and that was fine with Ed he was very patient. There was also bunny rabbits on the farm. I loved trying to catch those rabbits, especially the babies, when Aunt Sis saw my hands and arms after a day of trying to catch them, she said, "Julie, I think you need a Tetanus Shot." I had so many scratches on them.
When it was time for me to go home, I remember crying and not wanting to go. Aunt Sis would say, "You can come back again." Those summers meant a lot to me, and I am thankful that I was invited to stay.
Love You! Uncle Ed and Aunt Sis

Dear SiS and family. I'm sory that I can't be with you in person on friday, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you all.
Royal and I both thought the world of Ed, he was quite the guy.
I'll never remember whem he came to install a new faucet in the kitchen at Calhouh, He would line it up, lift his glasses to see better and then pu them back on. It looked wonderful.
after he left I had to call him back becaue the hot was on the right and cold on the left. We all got a big laugh out of that one for a long time.
You all take care of yourselves (very important) and remember you have lots of family and friends for support if you need anything.
I'm sorry that i can't be with tomorrow
but there are 4 memorials I should go to, but i had to pick one and that is
Auntie Irene's.
May God take you in his arms and help you through this difficult time.
God Bless,
Love Jo Ellen Blair

Oh, Dad, I will miss you forever and my life will never be the same without you. Thanks for always looking out for me and being a father to my kids. I always have felt blessed to have you and mom. How lucky we all have been to have parents like you. There will never be another like you and I know when my time comes you will be waiting for me like you promised. I wished you didn't have to leave us all. I love you so very much and thanks for the wonderful life you gave me. You are in my heart always, Dad and thanks for teaching me how to shoe a horse, mow the cemetery and become a hardware woman. My best times were in the hardware with you. Your overalls and writing on your hand. I learned that from you. Your thoughtfulness toward people and always trying to help others out. What a example you set. Who could not care about you, you were one in a million. I only wish you could come back again Dad. I'll feed your crow for you and watch over mom. I can't wait until we meet again.

I already posted a message to my DAD, but I have so much I would like to say about him.. My Dad loved his family so very much, he revolved his life around Mom, us Girls and his Grandchildren, my Mom was the love of his life. We all miss you Dad more then words can Say.. I will always remember racing down Old Owen Rd after feeding the horses, you would let me get way ahead of you and make me think I was going to win the race , then all of a sudden you would start running so fast I can still see your legs stretching past me,you were sailing on by, I was probably only 6 years old , I always thought for sure I was going to beat you home but never did, you would smile and give me a hug, we would laugh.. I love you Dad you are always in my heart and soul. Carol

Dear Sis and all Ed's family,
Fond memories of Ed and Ed's True Value store in Sultan. A gathering place for friends and neighbors. A place to chat with Ed, who always welcomed you with warmth and a good story. It didn't matter what you might need at the hardware store. If Ed didn't have it, he could get it for you. Honest Ed, reliable, dependable, trustworthy. A good friend. One of the best of the "good guys." We liked Ed, a lot. We will miss his presence in this valley. Sharing your grief, we send our love and prayers and our heartfelt sympathy to you and yours.

Sis, girls & family we are so sorry for your loss. I have such great memories of Ed and your family, from growing up as neighbors on the Ben Howard Road, babysitting the girls, having Ed as my 4-H leader, visiting with Ed at the store. We always looked forward to seeing Ed at the store. He always had that grin, and a "Do you remember when..." story from my growing up days. He played such a big part in so many peoples lives. He was a very special man and will be missed.

My heart goes out to all of you; it is so hard when someone you love so much is taken. I know that I hold my son in my heart and have the freedom to talk to him whenever I want. When I wish with all my heart for just one more hug, I hold on to the belief that I will get that hug soon when it is time and God is ready. I am holding you in my heart, my thoughts and my prayers. Love to all of you. Auntie Gail

As I read the entries, this man, whom we will all miss, impacted so many lives in the valley, his knowledge, his patience, his "expert advice", I do believe he could have sold just about anything! The entries are a true testament of how much this quiet man was cared about and will be sorely missed.

Blessings and peace to the Zurfluh family, in this time of sadness and sorrow.
I was so sad and shocked to read of Ed’s passingI wanted to share some of my memories of Ed, Sis and Cathy, Cheryl, Connie and Carol. We were briefly neighbors with farms adjacent to each other and in the same 4-H group till the family moved. Ed was our 4-H leader. Ed was the best 4-H leader ever and leader of the Hoofprints 4-H club. We learned so much about horses from his guideance and had a whole lot of fun at the same time! I remember Ed coming over to our farm to demonstrate/teach me how to trim Skipper’s , (my horse), hooves, taking time to help a 4-H kid.
When the Zurfluh family lived at their farm on Ben Howard farm, their farm was adjacent to our farm with the Haskel Slough between the farms. The slough between the two farms didn’t slow us down much. Cathy, Cheryl and I use to ride horses back and forth between the farms, riding alongside the Ben Howard road, through the trees, past the blackberrie bushes, cutting across to Niederle Rd, and around the entire valley having a blast, enjoying riding/practically living on our horses, friendship, visiting and always laughter—great fun. Some of my fondest memories were riding horses together, Cathy, who would be leading the way riding Patches her horse, we rode all over the valley.
Our 4-H group would have pot luck dinner get-togethers on the Zurfluh farm, where they had an awesome arena in the lower pasture. I still remember playing broomstick polo on the horses, adults and kids playing a fast game. Playday’s were fun too, with horses barrel racing, pole bending, you name it, was a blast. We rode in parades as a 4-H group also. I really missed horseback riding with the girls and family when they all moved across town to the IOOF Cemetary when Ed became caretaker, although we saw each other at school and kept in touch. Ed and his wonderful family are loved by all.
Blessings with love,
Linda

I am so sorry for the passing of Uncle Eddy. I always cherished in my heart the love they, Uncle Eddy and Aunt Sis gave to me during the birth of my first born, Darin. After I returned home from your place some 43 years ago I never ventured out of my surroundings. My loss for not reaching out. Eldon and I loved the both of you and the girls for opening your home to us in our time of need. You were truly blessed to have this wonderful man for as long as you did and to have him impart blessings and good things into your life. Thank you for sharing him, would be my dream to someday return to visit but for now Eldon and I send our love to you. God Bless you Aunt Sis and girls and family.

Ed was my favorite uncle. I was blessed to have known him my entire life and he was one of the most significent, and one of the best male role models anyone could ever have. Ed spent his whole life working hard. He played on a champoinship UW football team in the 40's. He overcame being blind as a child. Nothing was more important to him than family and I'm glad I got to know him for my 44 years and be a part of his family. I love you Uncle Ed.

You will be truly missed; Ed gave me and other High School boys our first jobs at the IOOF Cemetery, Ed had a knack of corralling our young energy to get the work done. He also taught us that hard work would pay off as we grew in to men, and it has. Some of my fondest memories were working for you and the others at the IOOF. Ed, always lent a helping hand at the hardware store, when you weren’t sure how you were going to fix something or start a project, he got you through it. He made me look like I knew what I was doing many times. May my memories of you live on forever.
Thank you for being one of my cherished mentors.
