Mavis Mower Obituary

Mavis LaVonne Gates Mower

Mavis LaVonne Gates Mower peacefully left her time here with us on March 7, 2011 at the age of 93.
She was born on February 23, 1918 in Stephen, MN to Earl and Olga Gates. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She attended Bemidji State College where she met her husband Robert K. Mower. Married for 50 years, they raised two children of their own, while providing a loving home for many foster children. She started her married life in Minnesota, followed by two years in Panama, and 38 years in Sultan, Washington. After her husband's death, Mavis spent 20 years living in Monroe, WA.
While raising her family she completed her education degree at Seattle Pacific University. She was a master teacher, teaching multiple generations of 1st graders at Sultan Elementary School. After retiring, she spent many years tutoring children in the Sultan - Monroe area. She loved playing bingo and could play blackjack with the best of them. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, knitting, crocheting, reading and fishing.
She is survived by her daughters, Ardyce Mower, Christine (Burnham) Hawkins and Sandra (Christianson) Budde; and her son, Richard Mower; grandchildren, Amy (Budde) Cunningham, Jane Budde, Raven (Hawkins) Perez and Nickolas Hawkins; and four great-grandchildren.
She was truly the Matriarch of our family and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at Purdy & Kerr w/Dawson Funeral Home in Monroe on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to The Evergreen Hospice at 12040 128th Street MS #5, Kirkland, WA 98034.

You are a very special lady and will be missed by many. You tutored our son off & on for a year in 1972 when he was ill. It
was your special touch that he never fell behind and that you cared so much for him & our family. There is a special place in heaven for you.
