Ronald Judd Obituary

Ronald Lewis Judd

Longtime Duvall resident Ronald Lewis Judd died Friday, May 13, at Regency Care Center in Monroe, where he had lived for the past four years. He was 73.
Born Aug. 25, 1937 to Lloyd Lewis Judd and Margaret Leda (Gross) Judd in Portland, OR, Mr. Judd grew up in the Portland area before moving in 1951 to Moses Lake, Grant County, where his father served as pastor of the Evangelical Methodist Church. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1956.
Also in Moses Lake, he met his future wife, fellow church member Gloria Fae Hartenstine. The couple wed on June 5, 1959 in Moses Lake, where Mr. Judd had begun what would be a three-decade career as an aerospace mechanic for the Boeing Company.
In 1960, the couple moved to Duvall, where Mr. Judd continued his employment with Boeing, commuting at various times to its Everett, Renton and Seattle commercial airplane plants and working on production lines for the 737 and 747.
From 1960 to 1966, Mr. Judd served as a reserve in the U.S. National Guard.
A lifelong, avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, amateur photography, and especially, summer camping trips with his family. He was a longtime active member of the Duvall Evangelical Methodist Church, a volunteer Duvall fireman, and an enthusiastic amateur radio operator, call sign WB7ELX. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District 751, and retired from the Boeing Company in 1992 at age 55.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Judd was diagnosed with an inoperable brain-stem tumor, which caused gradual paralysis, leaving him confined to a wheelchair during his later years. He moved to Regency Care Center in Monroe in 2007.
In addition to wife Gloria, of Duvall, he is survived by daughters, Janice Ohlsen of Duvall and Linda Ranz of Kenmore; a son, Ronald Charles Judd, of Bellingham; a sister, Judith Griffin of Duvall; and a brother, Lloyd Charles "Chuck" Judd, also of Duvall.
A private graveside service at Novelty Cemetery will be followed by a public memorial service at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Purdy & Kerr Funeral Home, 409 West Main Street in Monroe. Memorials may be made to Medical Teams International, Attn: Linda Ranz, 9680 153rd Avenue NE, Redmond, WA 98052, or www.medicalteams.org.
