As she faded away to nothing
(Based on a true story)
As people come and go, they always leave one thing behind. That one thing is memories. Happy or sad memories, we will always remember them. One memory I will never forget was a story about my Grandma Linda.
About seven years ago my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Before she had Alzheimer’s she was a sweet lady who loved beautiful things. She loved flowers and nature. My Grandma loved orca whales, dolphins, eagles and swans. My grandma also loved children and she loved me.
Last October my Grandma Linda came to spend the night. She whimpered all day and all night long. The next day my friend came over. My grandma said, “Shhhh! You have to be quiet. There is a little girl in the house!” That night we put some music on and she danced and laughed but then she said “you come up and dance” to my dad. He said, “Not right now”. She said, “What, you don’t dance? Well, you better get with the program”. It was hilarious and we all laughed. Then she jumped up and plopped right on the couch. She showed a little bit of her old, fun self that night.
It began to get hard to take care of her. We had to put her in a retirement home so that she could get good care. One day I came home and I went straight to the piano and played a piano piece. After I was done, my dad was crying and said he just received a phone call from my Uncle Scott saying that my Grandma had just passed away. We all cried and hugged each other. I texted all my friends and told them what happened.
We got ready for the funeral by finding the casket and my mom made pictures and posters. We went to the funeral and it was sad at times and happy too, but mostly sad. The chapel was filled with flowers, which she would have loved. I saw so many different people there, almost 400 people came to say goodbye to her. And now Grandma Linda is in heaven.

Rick, I was saddened to learn of Linda's passing. Those cherished memories of all the "good" times we had at the Moose and those Husky Football Bus rides to and from the many games throughout the years. Deepest condolences to you and family.

Linda was truly a special soul. She had many special gifts, one of which was her own special way of communicating with animals. When she and Rick came to our home one year, she met our furry animal Mitsi (our cat) who never, ever had warmed up to anyone, especially on the first meeting. When Linda came in contact with Mitsi, Mitsi immediately rolled on her back and invited Linda to scratch her belly. Something Jay and I are still in awe of. Mitsi recognized immediately that Linda was a very special individual, one we will hold close in our hearts forever. Rest in peace Mom, we love you. Jay & Donalyn
