Anthony Grgas Obituary

Anthony (Ante) Siska Grgas

Anthony (Ante) Siska Grgas, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly at home on March 11, 2011.
Anthony was born to Ane and Mate Siska Grgas on June 13, 1934 in Zablace, Croatia (former Yugoslavia). He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and served as an interpreter in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he established a home in Torrance, CA. Anthony worked 30 years at Shell Oil Company and advanced to the position of foreman. He enjoyed fishing on his boat, watching soccer games, listening to the Beatles, and spending time with close friends and family (especially grandchildren). Anthony retired in 1989 and moved to Lake Stevens, WA in 1994. During retirement, his hobbies included taking walks, making a lovely yard, feeding backyard birds, and caring for Ollie, his beloved dog.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Helga; son, Anthony Jr.; daughter, Marian; and five grandchildren, Luke, John, Jessica, Natalie and Daniel.
Anthony will always be remembered for the work he did to create a beautiful future for his children and grandchildren. He will forever be in our minds and our hearts.
A service to celebrate Anthony's life will take place on March 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98270.

I would like to express my condolences to the Grgas family & Ollie, too!
I met "ollie's dad" only 2 yrs ago while walking my dog - but I felt like I knew him as if he were my father. We talked often on our walks for great lengths of time - in the rain, in the
sun, at nighttime it didn't matter. I learned about the "refinery", his son & daughter, about the family being together for christmas. I learned about driving empty bottles back & forth through East Berlin "to keep the
road open" - he rode in the lead jeep becaasue he could speak Russian to the gaurds at either crossing...
McKinley - my malamute new "ollie's dad" as the "keeper of the 'goodies" & could always charm Ante into not just one goody but many!
I feel honored to have met & gotten to know such a wonderful man - to me he was like a dad, to his lovely wife I am sorry we stayed out so late talking on our walks - I will cherish every memory
Ante, thannx for spending time with me
take care, rest in peace, & god bless.

My heart goes out to you, Helga, Tony Jr., and Marian and your families. I was 10 months old when Tony arrived from Yugoslavia and have many fond memories of our early years. I was very proud of my big brother and looked up to him. My deepest and most sincere condolences, family. May Tony rest in eternal peace.

Tony was the neighbor that everyone loved. He was the example of what a good friend, neighbor, husband, father, and grandfather should be. He will be missed, but he graciously left a legacy to all of us with his kindness and bright spirit. Heartfelt condolences to his family who loved him -- the family he was so proud of. I am honored to have known him. Rest in Peace, Tony.
