Calvin O. Templeton

Calvin O. Templeton, 88, of Stanwood, WA died Monday, May 16, 2011 after a short illness.
Calvin was born March 13, 1923 in Cameron, WI to Calvin T Templeton and Emma E Templeton.
Calvin married Margaret (Peggy) King November 21, 1942 in Wisconsin. Calvin entered the service Oct 1, 1943. He had only been married to Peggy for one year. He served in the 5th Ranger Battalion in World War Two. He went to France in the invasion and he was there for two and a half years until the war ended. During that time he went to Buchenwald Concentration Camp and helped free the prisoners under German SS control. Later years he received the Bronze Star for military valor.
After the war, Cal joined Peggy in Stanwood where they lived and raised their three children.
Cal was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. He served on the school board for several years. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Calvin owned and operated the 76 Gas Station in the west part of town for twenty years.
Peggy Templeton passed away on May 31, 2005.
Cal is survived by his two daughters, Susan Osborne and Margaret Singh and her husband Buta; son, Keith and his wife Debbie; seven grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Bessie Templeton, Floyd and Marilyn Templeton; and special friends, Candi and Don Williams.
Cal was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Floyd.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday May 23, 2011 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Concluding services will be held in the Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood.
The Templeton family would like to direct memorials to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the Stanwood–Camano Food Bank. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and nurses at the Josephine Sunset Home – East wing for their loving care of Cal. Also special thanks to Wendy.
