When we were kids, my friend Gail and I would walk to Grocery Boys to buy Popsicles and Hostess Cupcakes on a regular basis. Our favorite checker was Mrs. Wandel. She always greeted us with her fabulous smile and treated us like grownups. Upon seeing her beautiful photo in the paper, I was touched again by her presence. Please accept my deepest and most sincere sympathy.

George, so sorry to hear about Esther. My memories of her are of a very classy lady. I have always appreciated the support you gave me over 25 years ago when we first met. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To George and the entire Wandel family: We knew time was short for Esther, and to be honest I'm grateful her passing was mercifully brief. Esther was a mainstay in our Seaview/Edmonds neighborhood, and I can honestly say that Esther made my life better, and my childhood more enjoyable, because of the love and support she showed toward everyone. Kind and caring, she liked gossip but never in a mean way, and the friendship she had with my mother and Lucy Johnson was a blessing to everyone. We were a close-knit bunch of neighbors, and that made all of our lives richer. I will always remember Esther with great fondness...and George, you're a class act, too, and Esther knew it or she wouldn't have stayed married to you for 61 years! Thank you, George and Esther, for being a blessing to the Shannons, and the very best of friends. -- with love, respect and affection, Jeff

My condolences to Uncle George and his family on the loss of Aunt Esther. She is one of my favorite childhood memories. The first memory of Aunt Esther is the picture of her in her Lincoln High School Cheer Leaders outfit. Aunt Esther and Betty Jo used to make fudge almost every Saturday and let me lick the spoon. I was 7 or 8 yrs. old then. Love you, Aunt Esther.
