I have known John and the Marzolf clan from childhood. I am really sad to hear of John's passing. He was a good hearted man and loyal friend. God bless you John, rest easy now.
Love and prayers to the rest of you Marzolf boys. Hugs too!

our deepest sadness for johns passing. he and his brothers had a lot of fun times visiting the hunter family out here on Dubuque road back in the 1950s weve got lots of pics of the marzolf boys playing with the hunter kids, john told us when hed get on his moms nerves shed say why don't you go over and see what mr. hunters up to. john came over in a blinding snow storm just to view little mary hunter in when she maid it home from the hospital. over the years john was always there to help the hunters as they got older and less able to do certain tasks and heavy lifting. he was so funny and good at telling insightful storys. at mayln hunters grave side memorial john told this story about how his bulls kept getting thru the fences he shared with mayln and how finally after this happened a half dozen times mayln in desperation nailed up three signs that read no trespassing. john scratched his head for a moment and then with perfect timing said {I just couldn't figure out which of my bulls could read} john is a man of faith. his spirit is in the arms of jesus. we will all meet again , wont ever forget his since of life and humour steve and mary hunter/rieder

I have known John most of my life. My husband and I have known the Marzolf brothers in one way or another for a long while, either through work or livestock or both. Our hearts go out to the family. John stopped by recently to visit and we were really glad to see him. He always came through for us when we needed help with animals or anything. We have some great memories Tom and I will miss you John.

John was a great classmate and he especially was my butcher, once he came out because we had a stubborn steer that wouldn't get back in the fence. Once he came driving up our long driveway the steer jumped back into the field. We all had a great laugh and then of course that steer became our meat for the winter. John always had a smile. My prayers to his wife and his family for their loss.

I've seen John off and on over the years but most regularly during his umpiring times about 25 years ago. John was one of the better umpires and when we were at the all day events he was enjoyable to be around in between games. He would talk about Pat and Erin and their interests in horses. He was very proud of his family and also enjoyed having Jonathan umpire with him. I hadn't seen John for about 3 years but thought of the family when I read of jonathan's passing and could only imagine how sad that was for them. John did tell a lot of stories and I'll never forget the first story I heard him tell. It was about 1968 when I was about 15. He spent about 45 minutes telling me about Mel Famey the famous pitcher for the Milwaukee Braves. I've told that story several times since.
John will for sure be missed.
Especially by his family.
But also by the rest of use who had the good fortune to have him as part of our lives.
