Benny Childers Obituary

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Mr. Benny Leland Childers, 60, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at HospiceCare of the Piedmont in Greenwood after a long battle with cancer.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 1, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Childers was a son of the late W.T. "Tug" Childers and Elizabeth Good Childers of Rock Hill. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill and was employed as a telephone contractor by Carolina Cable. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Randy B. Allen.

In addition to his mother, Benny is survived by his sisters, Jane C. Hayes and husband, Charlie of Rock Hill, S.C., and Libby C. Pelletier and husband, Dana of Greenville; nieces, Angela A. Robinson and Chelsea J. Hayes of Rock Hill, Ashley J. Allen of Charlotte, N.C., Danielle P. Thomas and Caroline E. Pelletier of Greenville; nephews, Will D. Pelletier and Dustin T. Pelletier of Greenville and Michael E. Hayes of Charlotte; and his close as a brother cousin, Johnnie M. Childers Jr of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m., prior to service, on Sunday, Feb. 1, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.

Jane, Charlie, and Family, We are very sorry for the loss of your beloved Benny. We know that you will take great comfort in knowing that he no longer suffers and is in a better place with the Lord. Although you will miss him very much, his spirit will always be with you while his soul waits to be reunited with you again one day in heaven. You are in our hearts today. We are sorry for your loss. Benny was a good friend of ours and we had many good times in Lakeland, Fl, and Monroe, Ga. He will be missed. Allen has shared all the memories of him when he was growing up.
