He was a loving and devoted patriarch of his family and believed in the overall well-being of others. His influence and love of family was reflected in his every action. His thoughtfulness, kindness and devotion to family and friends will never be forgotten.

The family will be receiving friends during the week at home. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 25, at St. John's United Methodist Church. Visitation with family will follow the ceremony.

Dear Joan & Family,

I am very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I would love to see you again and reminisce about old times. I often think of the good times we had at P.G's cabin in Eastern Brook! Sadly, Gerald passed away last September. I know it is very difficult when you lose someone you love...
When you feel able, I would appreciate hearing how Jack is doing.

My deepest sympathy,

Bruce Russell

Dear Joan, Linda, Robin, Susan and Janet: I am so sorry for your loss, although I have to say that I feel a great loss myself. I have been privileged to know him for thirty-five years and I have never known a finer person. I was thinking before I began writing this that I never saw him when he didn’t have a smile on his face, and a pleasant greeting. I don’t live beside you anymore, but I think of you often. Let the wonderful memories of him help you through this. I will be praying for all of you.

Robin, My condolences. You and your family are in my prayers

What struck me most about Bob Herdman was that in spite of all his accomplishments and successes, he was such a humble man. And what a great sense of humor too. I remember as a kid he arrived at one of my parents' dinner parties with a rowboat paddle (and Joan) in tow, announcing they had travelled to the party by boat (they lived across the lake from us - MAYBE 80-90 feet away)! It was true; their boat was tied up at the little dock my dad built. My mother and father cracked up; all 4 of them had a good laugh! Bob will be greatly missed; they don't seem to make too many men like Bob Herdman anymore. Joan, Lynda, Robin, Susan, Janet - my prayers are and have been with you. Much love, Karen

Dear Joan and Family, my prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. I have many fond memories of Bob. One special time when Jack and I had a green convertible and had Lynda in the front seat so that Bob could see her from the hospital with his binoculars. Another time when Bob and I arranged the flowers at the Cabin and our special boat trips on Lake Wylie and Bob bring Jack and I orange juice every morning we were there. He has a special place in my heart. God Bless you All!

I feel so honored to be able to write a few words about "Dad". Now I could probably write a book but at least I can write a few words here. What can I say about "Dad". I meet him and his wife when his daughter Robin lived in Juneau (still does) and the many times they came up to visit. He always made me feel a part of the family, made you laugh, made you feel good. I do have to tell one story he came up to my office in the State office Building with his video camera and acted like he was a movie director and asked for me and interviewed me and took film - everyone in the office was so amazed that a movie director would come and interview me - I don't think they ever knew - we laughed about that event - never won an award for that interview -oh well he made me laugh and still does to this day. I remember last November when he called me for my birthday -ours were in the same month - I felt so cherished to have a call from Dad. Dad I will miss you and your trips to Juneau and all of the fun that we had. I know that you are no longer in pain and at peace. Also thank you for thinking so much of my Mom. I love you very very much -love Joan and rest of the family and will miss Dad very much. Love you Wanda Fleming - Douglas, AK
