Dear Auntie Marion, I cherish each and every moment that we shared. You were always laughing and had a way of looking at life that was so very up-lifting. The fun times we had when you visited us on the farm, the joy and sorrow we shared as loved ones passed on. Of the several beautiful gifts of yours, my favourite is the rooster. It hangs in my kitchen to this day and if I had written down every wonderful comment about it, they would circle the world. A beautiful, talented lady, may you be happy now with Uncle Joe, Ruth and my Todd. Love Heather (Bill's wife)

Marian was a very special person, my mom's favourite sister. I knew her as a young child, as a teenager, young adult, adult and on. Special memories as she welcomed my family into her home and the visits that we had, though infrequent, after Marian and Joe moved to Florida. I know Kathy, Susan, Carol and Joe and grandhildren will miss her dearly, as will all that knew her and whose lives she touched.

I have so many fond memories of Grandma Begin, but some of my favourites are the times she would spend telling me stories of her adventures in Montreal as a young woman (e.g., taking the train to go skiing in Lac Des Deux Montagnes with all her friends and the parties that would ensue, or walking down Ste Catherine's street looking at the latest fashions in Kresge's store front window and imagining the possibilities). They were so vivid and engaging and her eyes would sparkle when she told them. These tales helped captured the spirit of a wonderful and caring woman for me, and will always bring a smile to my face.

Remembering my grandma... brings up images of soft pastels, flowers, talc powder, delicately painted pink and shapely fingernails... Grandma Begin was always the essence of softness and femininity - delicate hand movements and a ladylike walk... She was the grandma who had infinite time to bake cookies, to spend hours painting with me, encouraging my art - always good humoured, laughing, gentle - telling the tall tales of the escapades of Pepe, of her fiery redheaded youthful temper, of Grandpa arriving at her house for the first time - coming a courtin' with a bottle of Slow Gin! Missing you Grandma! You will always be in my heart!

I look back on all the pictures gathered here and realize they capture the memory(ies) of my grandmother, Nanna, perfectly: Always smiling.
Every memory of her that I can fully grasp begins or ends with her smile. The last time we were together, I remember being at the Summerhouse in Sarasota, with my mom, Kathy, and my wife, Julie. I still appreciate hearing her voice, singing, along with every word from the piano player and ,then, having to call it a night; long before Marian was ready. A fantastic last memory of my fabulous grandmother.

I am Kathy's younger son. My Nanna Begin reminds me to always be giving, choose to be happy and love my family. I will never forget her and Poppa's visits every summer to our house in Fredericton. From handcrafted piggy banks to hugs and kisses, she gave her love in many ways. Nanna was a kind gentle soul and a person I feel so lucky to have shared so much time with!

I have been very blessed to have had such a wonderful, loving and talented grandmother. I have many fond memories of us spending time together whether it was us sitting together watching the Soaps or her showing me how to paint or us dancing around the living room. I always enjoyed our visits and felt very much loved when I was with her and my Grandfather. I will miss her very much and find comfort in the great memories I have of being with her. I am thankful that all of us have had such a special lady in our lives.

Dear Begin Family
"God gave us memories so that we could have roses in December"
We are just sitting here reminiscing with Kathy about all the good times we had with your Mom and Dad. We still have our purple Crown Royal bag filled with pennies from our ABC Club meetings - where the Adam, the Begins and the Crofts would get together to play cards. We hope you enjoy your reminiscences as much when you get together soon as a family. Our sympathies to all.

Kathy, Ryan, Sheehan, Carol, Susan and Joe--please accept our sincere sympathy on the passing of your beautiful Mother and Grandmother. We hope you all take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and in a much better place. We have fond memories of meeting all of you during your visits to Fredericton and visiting Marion and Joe at their home in Sarasota during our first Florida vacation. Also, remember well the anniversary party Kathy hosted for her parents in Fredericton--probably for their 40th. They were so happy that day to have their children and grandchildren gathered together to share that wonderful event. Marion was a beautiful lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Arlene and Al

Several years ago, my friend Kathy McBride introduced me to her Mother, Marian~~~ Such a lovely & talented lady. I had the pleasure of spending a week-end with her here in Sarasota. We went to dinner one evening.(her favorite place, Turtles on Siesta Key) The next day we went to the Book Exchange; She really did enjoy reading. The next day, we went to an Art Gallery on Main Street. Marian & one of the Guest Artists from Oklahoma was there doing a demonstration & signing some of his art. They enjoyed discussing their different techniques.I felt so honored when Marian gave me one of her beautifully hand painted plates & small pitcher, which I will treasure always! She gave me a wonderful tour of her many gorgeous works of art! Yes, Marian was indeed a wonderful, talented & beautiful woman. I have been so fortunate to have known her & will miss her very much. My thoughts & Prayers go out to your Family & Friends. Kathy. Take Care & God Bless, your friend Always, Mary Boyce

Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts or measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. Kathy, Marian's Eldest Daughter

Kathy McBride, Marian's Eldest Daughter

June 5, 2011

Hello Dear Friends of My Mother Marian -
I am Kathy, Marian & Joe's eldest daughter in Sarasota. I'd like you to know that my Mom was surrounded by the love of her family in Canada during her last days as my brother and sisters were with her around the clock. I could not be there due to a broken kneecap and hip to ankle brace which prevented my travelling from Sarasota. This is one of the reasons the Memorial and burial will take place in September - so I can be there. I do not have contact information for many of you and for security reasons do not want to post mine here. However, if you'd like to have a little chat with me about my Mom and her life since she left Sarasota, I believe this guestbook provides a way to link to my email and yours without displaying our email addresses. Please so indicate in your guestbook entry, giving a hint as to how you knew Marian - through one of the porcelain painting groups, neighbor, or other connection, and I will try to contact you. In the meantime, the funeral home website in Brampton, Ontario, Canada provides a similar service to this one at the following link
http://www.dignitymemorial.ca/dm20/en_CA/main/dmc/search/obit-search-results.page
By entering my Mom's name, ON, and May 31, 2011 - you will be able to access a more-detailed obituary, a guestbook that we'd also like you to sign AND a webpage that my siblings and I will be working on with photos. In the meantime, you all know that my Mom (and Dad) loved their Florida home and all of you.
