Monte Marshall Obituary

Marshall, Monte King
July 20, 1932 - Aug. 23, 2017
Monte King Marshall died peacefully at his home in Sarasota, Florida on August 23, 2017. He was 85.
Monte was the only child of William King Marshall and Bertha Kirkpatrick Marshall. He was born on July 20,1932, in Flint, Michigan, and spent his childhood there. He earned his economics and law degrees from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. Monte served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and in the military reserves.
Anne Cunningham Rust and Monte were married in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 30, 1957, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year. A lifetime of love, partnership, travel, and adventure was shared by the two of them. Monte was a wonderful father to his sons John King Marshall (Lynn) and Thomas Kenneth Marshall (Betsy) and loving grandfather to Andrew King Marshall, Miles Thomas Marshall, and Anna Elizabeth Marshall.
Monte was a thinker and a servant leader. He practiced law with the Williams Parker Law Firm in Sarasota, Florida, for over 30 years. A highly respected estate and tax attorney, Monte counseled individuals and families planning for and passing through some of the more difficult days of their lives, He kept a lot of secrets.
Monte led Boy Scout Troop 90 in Sarasota. Its membership included 24 Eagle Scouts, many of whom went on to become our community leaders. He served as a trustee of the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation and the Ringling Museum, and he represented the Selby Foundation for many years. A man of action in the Christian faith, Monte taught Sunday school, organized ministries to singles, was a founding member of South Shore Community Church, and was a great student of the Bible.
The family is grateful for Monte's life and joins the community of believers in ushering him home. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 08, at First Presbyterian Church, 2050 Oak Street, Sarasota, Florida 34237.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to South Shore Community Church, 1899 South Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34239, or to a charity of your choice.

Monte touched my life in a profound way through the First Baptists singles ministry. He was always 100% supportive, hosting bible studies, fun events and weekend trips to cayo costa for the entire group. Always smiling and joking, and the first person I went to for sage advice. His memory will live with me, and so many others, forever.

Monte was truly a good and decent man. Even with all his talent and kindness, he was always a humble and gracious man. May he enjoy his eternal peace
