Charles Ethridge Obituary

Ethridge, Charles E.
March 24, 1930 - May 13, 2011

Retired Major Charles "Chick" E. Ethridge, husband of the late Shirley Hall Ethridge, passed away in Ellenton, Fla. on May 13, 2011 after battling a long illness. Mr. Ethridge was a life long resident of Milford, N.H. He worked at Sprague & Carlton Furniture Factory and Hitchner Manufacturing Company both in Milford; until his deployment to Vietnam in 1968. He served in the 3rd battalion 197 battery serving as a forward observer for the artillery during the Tet Offensive. He was promoted to the rank of Major. and was appointed Battery Commander for headquarters. He was awarded the bronze star for his service. Mr. Ethridge was a member of Benevolent Masonic Lodge #7 in Milford, N.H. He was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 29. Chick enjoyed working in his yard and playing golf. He is survived by his sister, Janet Worcester and her husband Charles of Milford, N.H., also by his son, Timothy Ethridge and wife Bonny of Leominster, N.H., his daughter Cynthia Rutledge and her husband Charlie of Havenhill, Mass. Mr. Ethridge had three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the United Methodist Church of Ellenton or the United Methodist Church of Milford, N.H.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Ellenton. Jennings Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
