Joshua Chapnick Obituary
July 2, 1979 - June 18, 2008
Joshua D. "Chappy" Chapnick, 28, West Palm Beach, formerly of Sarasota, died June 18, 2008.
Funeral services will begin at noon Monday at Toale Brothers Funeral Homes, Colonial Chapel.
Survivors include his parents Bruce and Sandi; and a sister, Nicole.
He received a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He also had a bachelor's degree in both Culinary Arts and Culinary Management. He was a chef at the Seasons 52 restaurant and an assistant food and beverage manager at Morton's Steakhouse, West Palm Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Joshua David Chapnick Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for Support of People with Epilepsy, P.O. Box 49587, Sarasota, FL 34240.

I am so sorry to hear of Josh's passing. He was such a wonderful person, beaming with life and filled with deep compassion for everyone. We met 13 years ago and not a year went by that I didn't think of him. I will always remember him and his love for people and life.

My deepest sympathies to the Chapnick family. Simply put, Josh was a great guy. He always cheered up a dull room. Josh was a brother in every sense of the word, and sharing the Lambda Chi Alpha brotherhood with him in Pittsburgh was an honor. I think the last time I saw him was at a softball game we mustered up at Schenley Field about 4 springs ago...I loved his competitive spirit. I regret not keeping in touch. Chappy, you will be missed man.

I sort of lost touch with Josh but I always knew wherever he was he was smiling and making someone else happy at the same time. He will be greatly missed. Since 2001 Josh and I have been very good friends. Our friendship really started when he was my waiter at Hemmingways in Pittsburgh, PA. I was eating lunch alone and he invited me over his place for a BBQ. That is the kind of guy he was... He went out of his way to make everyone feel special. Since that day he and I have visited each other on many occasions. After graduating college, we made many efforts to get together. He flew up to see me in Philadelphia for New Years Eve, where he truly was the life of the party. It was almost impossible to get a cab that night, but when we did a 6 ft 3in guy with massive muscles tried stealing the cab. Josh step in front of him and said "Hey, you steroid juicing freak.... get the next cab!" I thought something bad was going to happen, but to my surprise the big guy gladly gave up the cab. Another admirable quality, Josh always stood his ground! He was never afraid of challenges, no matter the size. There are so many stories and other qualities I have not mentioned. Josh was a good friend and one of the best people I know.
Josh you will be missed, but our experiences together will always be remembered. My condolences to Josh's family and all of you who have been touched.

Josh was a great man. I will always remember him walking down the halls of FCI with a big, kind and welcoming smile on his face. He was always willing to help anyone who needed anything. He will be greatly missed!

I sit here in tears reading the beautiful words that have been written about Chappy, yet I can't help but smile as I remember the wonderful, friendly, outgoing person he was. Not only was my husband Tony a brother of Lambda Chi with him, but Chappy was also a best man in our 2004 wedding. Tony and I will always have a special place for him in our hearts b/c he truly was one of the best men we've ever known. We will forever look back at our wedding album and remember the truly amazing person Chappy was. I am so honored to have known him. My husband and I have your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Josh was my roommate the second semester of his freshman year. I transferred to Pitt and did not know anyone. Josh went out of his way to make me feel at home and introduce me to new people. I will never forget my first birthday away from home. Josh somehow found out the date and took me out to a wonderful dinner to celebrate. I barely knew him at the time, but it didn't matter; he was always the first in line to help others. I remember calling my father that night and telling him what a great friend I had just met. Everyone who knew him will have similarly great memories. I will miss him dearly.

I was so blessed to meet Josh during my freshman year of college at Pitt and was lucky enough to live next door to him sophomore year! My deepest condolences to your family. I like many others met Josh while in college atUniversity of Pittsburgh. I first met Josh as a Freshman ,and he a Junior in business school. He greeted me with a smile extended his friendship. Soon we became friends and then Brothers once I joined Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
I can only think of his infectious smile and all the selfless acts of kindness he had for me or our fellow Lambda Chi brothers. Whether it was making dinner together, giving a ride, or just watching TV, Josh would always make you feel comfortable and welcome. I'd like to send my thoughts and prayers to your family as Josh will definately be missed.

He possessed an insurmountable spirit that was a beacon to others. I can't put it into words how sorry I am for your loss. I like many others knew Josh through his time at the University of Pittsburgh, and was a brother of his in Lambda Chi Alpha. I wanted to do the things he did in college like join a fraternity, be active, get a degree, and hang out with a family that I didn't know when I go to school. Sandi, when I first met Josh, I was struck by what a sweet person he was. I was so impressed by his outward, unabashed affection for you and Bruce. I remember visiting your home one day when Josh was home and thought it was so cute the way he and Bruce "wrestled" over the TV remote. Josh ended up watching TV with his arms drapped over his dad's shoulders. I felt it was a window on the close, loving relationship he had with all his family. We were all blessed to have known Josh.
