John H. ("Jack") Negele, Captain USN, (retired) 88, passed away December 11, 2012 in Sarasota, Florida. He is predeceased by his wife, Ruth Negele and leaves three surviving children Robert D. Negele of Portland, Oregon, and Lin Kurant and John W. Negele, both of Sarasota. He leaves six grandchildren, Jessica Kurant of Sarasota, Fletcher Negele and John Daniel Negele of Venice, Katie Maxwell of Huntsville, Alabama and Forest Negele and Hunter Negele of The Dalles, Oregon and three great grandchildren.
He entered the Navy in 1947 and served for 26 years. While serving in the Navy he graduated from Naval flight school, Pensacola FL. and went on to earn a Master's degree in Meteorology from the prestigious Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey California. His overseas stations included tours of duty aboard the carrier USS Wasp, NAS Atsugi, Japan, Port Lyautey, Morocco and he served as Commanding Officer, Naval Weather Center in Agana, Guam. Prior to his retirement in 1973 he served as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the Naval Weather Service in Washington D.C. After retiring from the Navy he worked as a Realtor with the Sarasota Board of Realtors and served as the President of the Multiple Listing Service for several years. He was an avid golfer and a member of several golf clubs in Sarasota, where he was club champion for two years. He scored a hole in one in a tournament in Washington D.C. A private family memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA followed by interment there.
