John M. Hodge, age 83, of Englewood, Florida, passed away on January 1, 2014. He was born November 21, 1930 in Jamaica Plains, New York and moved to Englewood, Florida in 1992 from Freeport, ME. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1952. He was a Marine Engineer with Bath Irons Works Shipbuilders for 30 years before retiring in 1988. He served on a merchant marine tanker and a Navy Destroyer during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Elks in Englewood, Florida, the Moose Lodge in Venice, Florida, and Sahib Shrine in Sarasota, Florida. He was an Episcopalian. Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Mag) Carver Hodge, as well as various nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, c/o Sahib Shrine Center, 600 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota, Florida 34232.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm at the Venice Masonic Lodge Number 301, 118 E. Venice Avenue, Venice, Florida 34285-1924. Arrangements by the National Cremation and Burial Society.
