Mike and Laura: It is difficult to find words to say, except that Benjamin was indeed a valiant young man and a tribute to his Mom, Dad and brother. I send a warm hug to your entire family from Gainesville and said a prayer yesterday at the United Church of Gainesville, where he was remembered. With love.

I did not meet Benjamin when he was old enough to remember me, but I do know enough about his sweet mama to know that he was a beautiful, loving spirt. May peace & love surround his family.

I am custodian of the Gilkey Famliy Tree on Ancestry.
I get notified whenever a Gilkey dies, but I don't always get all the info.
If someone could contact me with some family info and photos then I will add the whole family to the tree. I need lineage back as far as you have.
need dob, marriage, service, dod, burial location, etc
With sincere hope for the family to over come his short life that God gave him, here on earth.

Bob and I send our love to all of you. Words are so inadequate to express feelings at a time like this. The best we can do is be thankful for how Benjamin enriched the lives of those around him, and strive to live in ways that honor his spirit.

My tears are falling like rain. The devastating news came my way, as I was sitting on the "rock" overlooking the water in the beautiful landscaped garden you, Michael, created for us.
Our thoughts are with you and we send our sincerest and deepest condolences to you and your family.

Laura, to you, Michael, Banyan, and your extended family, I extend my deepest condolences for your loss. Benji was such a brave little warrior, and his fight was impactful to so many people, as was your unity, and love for each other. I know that Benji is free, laughing, and waiting to whisper to you all in your dreams, flit through your house on a cool breeze, and smile at you in the face of a stranger when you least expect it. I will be at your memorial with many tissues in hand on March 4th. Shalom.

Words cannot express my sympathies for your loss. You are in our prayers. "One day, a son asked his father, "Why is it always the best people who die?"
The father answered, "Son, if you are in a meadow, which flowers do you pick? The worst ones or the best?"

Our hearts are full of sorrow for this beautiful family. You can tell that Benjamin was born into the most loving family and they all fought hard with him. Children should not have to carry the burden of cancer, sometimes life here on earth is unfair. May Benjamin live an eternal life with peace and harmony and in the warmth of his gladiator parents and his brothers' forever love. Sleep well angel.

Laura,You will never know me but your words have been a gift to the world touching people in ways you could never have imagined. My only prayer is for God to wrap His heavely wings around your family and comfort you until you see Benjamin again.

...and a little child shall lead them. I read most of your posts Laura about Benji's daily ups and downs. Hanging on every word some times in my imagination replacing Benji with one of the healthy children in my family.. I could hardly bare to continue reading. Benji's mom, dad and brother also fought a valiant fight. He lead his little band of brave soldiers well. I sobbed with you, I sobbed for you but most of all I kept reading filling my mind and soul with affection and deep respect for a family named Gilkey. I wish you all many blessing-- you have an angel now named Benji who's earned his wings watching over you.
