Jack Whitlock Obituary

LOGAN - Jack K. Whitlock, 92, passed away peacefully at his Logan home Oct. 26, 2011. Jack was born March 31, 1919, to Hyrum David Whitlock and Marilda Terry Lauritzen Whitlock in Preston, Nev.
Jack married Vonda Hadfield in the Logan LDS Temple on April 10, 1942. They have two children, Jackie (Scott) Alvord of St. George, Utah, and Von H. (Nileen) Whitlock of Las Vegas, Nev.; as well as seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He moved from Preston, Nev., to Logan in 1936 and later graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in engineering and trades. After spending four years in the Army Air Corps in Tampa, Fla., Monterey, Calif., the South Pacific, Philippines and New Guinea, Jack moved back to Logan and started his own building construction business. He built more than 100 homes, including the home he resided in for more than 50 years. He loved the challenge of doing remodeling jobs and completed hundreds of them.
Jacks membership in the LDS Church was very important to him in his life. He was a true example of a faithful and obedient servant. He served in many church positions. After retiring, Jack served for 18 years as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple.
Jack, and his wife Vonda, traveled all over the Western States square dancing with friends. He was an avid Aggie fan for more than 70 years. Last year at the age of 91 with his wife Vonda, 90, he attended all of the USU home basketball games.
He is survived by his wife, Vonda; his daughter, Jackie W. Alvord (Scott) of St. George, Utah; and his son, Von H. Whitlock (Nileen) of Las Vegas, Nev.; his seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hyrum David Whitlock and Marilda Terry Lauritzen Whitlock; sisters, Vonda Rogers and Virginia Kenyon; his brother, Ray; and his stepbrothers, Terry and Willis Lauritzen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at the Logan Hillcrest 2nd Ward building, 875 N. 1500 East in Logan. A viewing will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. in Logan and prior to services Monday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.

Vonda, Mary and I want you to know that we care greatly for you. Thank you for your loving example being a caring wife, doting mother, professional associate and faithful friend. Though we have been in Florida seven years, you have not missed once wishing me birthday greetings. What a wonderful, caring woman. We love you and wish you happiness and joy as you continue building that incredible Whitlock legacy to share with the world.
Sincerely,

I was saddened to hear the passing of Jack. You and he were always such good neighbors and I appreciated his neighborliness through the years. I've been missing you both for years and hearing that Jack had died, touched me and I was stirred with so many memories of our associations through the years. May you know of my love for you and your family at this time. I hope to see you when I'm in Logan sometime. With sympathy, Claude

Vonda, Jackie, Von ...Jack was one of the pioneers of the old Logan 20th Ward. He was a great example to all of us "kids' who grew up in that area. My condolences to your family. My mom also sends her condolences as well. May the Lord bless you all.
