Darrell Kuhn Obituary

Darrell August Kuhn, 76, passed away Sept. 22, 2012, in his home in Providence, Utah. He was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Tacoma, Wash., to Otto and Josephine Coon. He spent his early childhood in Washington state. His family moved to Alaska where he finished grade school and graduated from Fairbanks High School.
Darrell loved the outdoors and spent many years hunting, fishing and camping. He had a great love of music and was an accomplished piano player. He was very civic minded and worked with the Boy Scouts, served on the Board of Sanitation in El Granada, Calif., and served as the president of the Metropolitan Kiwanis Club of Stockton, Calif. He was also involved in many other organizations throughout his life.
Darrell spent most of his career in the newspaper and printing industries. He began at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner in Alaska. Later he worked at Scripps League Newspapers Inc. in San Mateo, Calif. He worked there for 28 years and was promoted to the position of senior controller.
After retiring from Scripps, he bought a Minuteman Press in Stockton, Calif., which he managed for 12 years. He sold the Minuteman Press and retired to 44 acres in Calaveras County, Calif., where he continued to enjoy the outdoors. Recently, he and his wife sold the property and moved to Providence, Utah.
Darrell is survived by his sweetheart of 49 years Bonnie Marie Kuhn (Larsen). He is also survived by his five children, Marianna Kuhn of San Jose, Calif., Darrell Kuhn Jr. (Pattie) of Vancouver, Wash., David Kuhn of Shasta, Calif., Karen Watkins (Jeff) of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and Bradford Kuhn (Darla) of Yuma, Ariz. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Kuhn.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at the Cobblestone 1st Ward house, 420 W. 100 North in Providence, Utah. A viewing will be held from 11 to 11:40 a.m. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery under the direction of Serenicare Funeral Home of Providence.
The family wishes to thank the staff at CNS Home Health and Hospice for all the care and support they provided to Darrell and his family.
