Michael Markeson Obituary

Michael James Markeson
Logan - Michael James Markeson passed away Jan. 20, 2015, of a heart attack. He was 58 years young.
Mike was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on May 3, 1956, to his parents Robert and Ethel Markeson. His family moved to Brigham City, Utah, when he was a child. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1974. He attended the University of Utah and Utah State University, where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He met his wife Alta in college, and they married and moved to Logan where they raised two daughters. Mike spent his career working at ATK Thiokol as an engineer.
Mike enjoyed all outdoors activities, and his favorites included fly fishing, skiing with his daughters, golfing and hiking. He recently discovered a love for road biking and was looking forward to riding LoToJa (Logan to Jackson) this fall. Mike often spent his weekends working on home improvement projects (his home and others'), playing with his dogs, and watching sports. Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Mike was a wonderful father, an adventurous traveler, a consummate professional in everything he did, and a loyal and fun friend to many.
Mike is survived by his wife, Alta Markeson; his daughters, Amy and Abby Markeson; sons-in-law, David Conlin and Jared Schiffman, and three grandchildren, Emmett, Clover, and Owen. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Phipps, and his brothers, John and Tom Markeson.
A memorial and celebration of Mike's life will take place on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Logan Golf and Country Club. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.allenmortuaries.net.

I am so very sorry to hear that Mike has left our world way too soon. I didn't stay in touch over the years, but we were good friends in high school and in college. I remember his quiet and winning ways, his big heart, funny sense of humor and zest for life -- and that really great smile. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, Alta, and your family. May his light shine from within you all.

Saddened to learn of the passing of this high school friend and fellow "Aggie". He was never flamboyant, portrayed a confidence and assurance, well-liked, even from his youth. My condolences....

It was not time for Mike Markeson to leave us. He had so much more life to live with his family, friends and his co-workers. This is a devastating loss for us all. Alta and Mike shared such a strong bond of love. He would do anything for his wife and his girls. He was someone to admire, have fun with and look forward to the next time to get together. He was sincere and he loved all living things. I will always remember the way he delighted in "meeting" our birds, particularly the cockatoos. Mike was someone I felt lucky to know and to be with. He will be missed. I am so sad I won't have another opportunity to be with him.
