Nancy Garrett Obituary

Nancy Dollar Garrett departed from this life to join her Heavenly Father on May 22, 2014. She was born in Alvin, Texas on June 28, 1947 to J. Ross Dollar and Mary Matsushita Dollar. Born and raised in Alvin, she graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a degree in mathematics. She was an Alvin HS Math Teacher for several years until 1976 when she married the love of her life, Jacko Garrett. From that moment on, she was able to live out her lifelong dream of living on a ranch, where she and Jacko farmed rice and raised cattle.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Traci Garrett LaChance and her husband, Paul LaChance, daughter Christy Garrett Jennings and her husband, Webb Jennings, sister Marilyn Wagner, grandchildren Garrett Harvey, Meagan Harvey, Alex LaChance, Leslie LaChance, Mary B. Jennings and Lila Jennings, in addition to many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and J. Ross Dollar and her brother, Andy Dollar.
Nancy was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and served on the board of the Angleton/Danbury Hospital. Nancy loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her happiest days were being a part of the team at Garrett Farms and working side by side with her extended family, the lifelong employees, whether it was on a tractor, combine or horseback working cows. She had an incredible work ethic and a mischievous sense of humor. She also loved her prized Brahman & Brahman/Angus cattle, gathering eggs and tending to her chickens at the "chicken palace", reading novels and planting flowers in her garden.
For many years, Nancy loved the role as the summer camp Mom for the Lollar, Winston, Baker and Meador cousins, teaching them the beauty and discipline of working on the farm at Garrett Farms Boot Camp. One of the greatest life lessons she taught those she loved, was how important it was to get back in the saddle when bucked off. This lesson applies to the way she lived her life through her tenacity and spirit. She also had a great love of music and dancing, riding her horse and being with her constant companion and tail-wagger, Rudy.
Nothing brought Nancy more joy in life than her grandchildren and she will leave them with countless memories riding horseback, gathering eggs, riding on the floorboard of her combine, and being present to cheer them on while showing cattle, playing football or softball. Affectionately known as "Nan", she gave them the most beautiful gift anyone can give- unconditional love and support from the day they were born.
The family would like to recognize the countless hours, support and love given to Nancy over the last year by her friends, caregivers from Kay's Place and the special blessings from The Heralds of The Gospel. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate gifts made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Nest Egg Campaign or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Danbury on May 27, 2014 from 5:00-6:45. A rosary will follow at 7:00. A funeral mass will be said at St. Anthony's on May 28, 2014 at 10:30. Lunch will be served at the church hall following the mass. The Garrett Farms employees will serve as pallbearers.
The family will have a private burial at their family cemetery.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Tim. 4:7
