Harold Brelsford Obituary

Harold Petsch Brelsford
1944-2016
Harold Petsch Brelsford, at the age of 72, left this world on June 25, 2016, one hundred and fifty miles off of the coast of Galveston, Texas. He was scuba diving, a passion of his since high school. He left with a smile. He was born on June 29, 1944, to Harold John and Peggy Petsch Brelsford, in Fredericksburg, Texas. He lived there with his Mother and dearly loved grandparents, Alfred and Myra Petsch, until his father returned from World War II. Harold spent his childhood in Houston, Texas where he graduated from St. John's School, as part of a small, close class. He went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. He was also a proud member of the US Marine Corps. By far, his greatest joy was the birth of his daughter, Edyth Elaine Brelsford. Harold practiced law in Houston for many years until he married Carol Ruzicka, moved to League City, and found himself fully embraced and loved by Carol's entire family as "one of the crew." Harold displayed a unique passion for life. He relished the water, car racing, and was an avid Houston and Longhorns sports fan. The world seems a little less bright without Harold – he will be sorely missed. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Carol Ruzicka Brelsford. He is survived by his daughter, Edyth Brelsford and step-children Sara, Joseph and Michael Ruzicka. Harold has two grandsons, Zac Candelaria and James Ruzicka. Harold will be missed by his sisters Dianna Jones, Susie Brelsford and Madge Brelsford; and his brother John and wife Julie, and his nephews Cactus, Jeff and Joe. He also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wed, June 29th, from 5-9PM at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main St, League City, TX 77573. Funeral services will be held on Thu, June 30th, at 2PM at Greenwood Cemetery, 1665 N Llano St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. Remembrance gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.

Harold carpooled to St Johns for years with me and my sisters and Margaret Sher Elliston. He was a character. As senior prom approached, neither of us had a date so Mr. Murphy prevailed upon Harold to ask me and my memory is that he dove into the river with car keys in his pants and lost them! Think his mother had to pick us up.
Good to hear he was so fond of scuba diving and so sorry to here the news.

My sincere condolences to Harold's family. I moved to the USA from England 36 years ago and met Harold at the Allen House. He could often be found at the pool pouring over legal books in preparation for the bar exam which I recall he passed with flying colors. What a true gentleman.

So very happy Harold and I got to know one another and discuss politics, imbibe, laugh, eat, philosophize and just sit. Hook 'em Horns, Harold.

Harold (Harry as some called him) was an incredible person and often referred to as "A Rock" to many. I knew him for about 38 years and he was a huge part of my family for many years. He leaves us with a great void in our hearts but wonderful memories. "Harold was Harold" and if you knew him, you would understand that phrase! Please celebrate his life tonight and have a party because if Harold was here, he'd make sure it was a good party!!! My heart goes out to Edie and Zac and the Ruzicka children. He will be sorely missed but fondly remembered as someone who always managed to make us laugh!

Harold and I were classmates at St. John's, from 7th to 12th grade.

I remember what a good sport he was, his constant good cheer, and his engaging sense of humor. We shared many laughs.

My condolences to his family and friends.
