Gloria Krehmeier Obituary

Gloria (Tuggie) Krehmeier 83, passed away in Sugar Land, Texas, following a brief illness. Visitation is scheduled at Sugar Land Mortuary, 1818 Eldridge Road on Saturday, April 5th from 9:30am to 11:30am. Graveside services will follow at 12:00pm at Morton Cemetery, Richmond, Texas. Gloria was born August 30, 1930 in Sugar Land, Texas to Robert and Nona Laperouse. She was baptized at Saint Theresa Catholic Church. Gloria graduated from Sugar Land High School in 1948. That same year, Gloria married her late husband, Bill Krehmeier. Gloria and Bill were married 63 years. Many knew Gloria affectionately as Mom, Granny, or Tuggie. Gloria had a zest for life that never waivered. She loved being outdoors, enjoying coffee on the pier overlooking the lake each morning with her husband. She was an avid fisherman and kept a small tackle kit in her kitchen drawer, ready to fish at any moment with a grandchild. The catfish that swam under the pier were well fed, as were the squirrels and dove that lived in her yard. Gloria never missed a trip to the beach with her family. In earlier years, she taught swimming lessons to many Sugar Land youngsters in her backyard pool. She ran 5ks in Houston later in life, often finishing in the top 3 finishers.
In addition to being a homemaker, Gloria worked at Hughes Tool, Acme Brass and as an Imperial Sugar Company Tour Guide. She was extremely proud of her Sugar Land heritage; her father was the chemist at the sugar refinery. She was also a Realtor for several years. She was a fixture in the school carpool lanes shuttling grandkids between school, CCE, scouts and athletic events. Gloria was an outstanding cook. She searched for recipes from her massive collection of cookbooks for new recipes. Her fried chicken and roasted beef were family favorites. Holidays were always special events at the Krehmeier house - the Christmas tree was officially lit immediately following Thanksgiving dinner. At Easter, she would fill and hide hundreds of eggs in the backyard. In retirement, Bill and Tuggie traveled each summer to spend several weeks in Cancun with family members. She was an avid poker player enjoying many trips to Coushatta.
Her devoted children, Becky and her husband Kevin Dagg, Jeff and his fiancé Katie Springs, and John and his wife Valerie, all of Sugar Land, survive Gloria. She has eight loving grandchildren: Mike Moore, Rachel Moore, Randy Moore and Travis Dagg; Clint and Harrison Krehmeier; and Will and Katherine Krehmeier, as well as one great granddaughter, Ava Moore. The Krehmeier family would like to thank the following for the attentive care given to Gloria over the last several weeks: Vantage Hospice and Home Instead, as well as Dr. John Pozzi. The family has requested donations be made to the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation (slheritage.org) or a favorite charity in lieu of flowers. Pallbearers are Kevin Dagg, Mike Moore, Travis Dagg, Clint Krehmeier, Harrison Krehmeier, and Will Krehmeier.
