Jimmy Cain Obituary
Jim grew up in Central Texas and Brownsville before serving in the Navy. He earned degrees in Meteorology and Oceanography from Texas A & M where he was an enthusiastic member of the Singing Cadets. He was co-owner of Cain & Barnes, L. P.. In his profession he was known as a man of legendary integrity, good humor, and reliability, and was internationally recognized and honored in the field of geodesy. Jim was active in the International Palm Society and he and Liz traveled extensively to their biennial meetings. His other hobbies include Caribbean travel, snorkeling and genealogy research.
Visitation will be at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX, Tuesday, December 3 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral is Wednesday, December 4, at 10 am at Emmanuel Episcopal Church,15015 Memorial Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Texas A&M Alumni Association.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and Singing Cadet colleague, Jimmy. Words cannot express the honor I feel to have known him. Jimmy and I were both in the Singing Cadets for 20 semesters! I know that "Happy Day" will echo throughout his "new" home in Paradise! God bless you, Jimmy! And my prayers and thoughts are with those you have left behind! Hopefully, I will again see you...keep the card deck handy, Jimmy!

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr Cain, but I know he was a good man and a good father because I've come to know and cherish as a friend his beloved daughter Michelle. I can see where she gets her infectious smile! Rest in Peace Dear Sir, and I thank you for the friend you've given me, Michelle.

Liz, our queen meet'ins just won't be the same without our Spud Stud. He was a true gentleman and such a kind soul... always at the ready with a smile and genuine laughter at our shenanigans. In the 30+ years I knew Jim Cain he was my boss, my associate, my competitor, my mentor, antagonist and most importantly, my friend. The world is a better place for Jim having been in it. Deepest sympathy to Liz and the family.

Fond memories of my three years in Singing Cadets with Jim, his help with some difficult calculus hurdles, and his unfailing friendship. His laugh brightened many a room. My thoughts and prayers are for his family and friends.

Jim had that wonderful ability to light up the room like rays of sunshine whenever he entered ---- we always knew when Jim was in the room and appreciated his sense of humor and laughter! We will also miss Jim's love of cooking --- especially his award-winning Texas Chili ---- no beans for this native Texan! The "Road Kill" award was the funniest, and somehow it has "disappeared" over the years. Jim's chili was the best, awards or not, and his friendliness, not to mention his incredible business and industry acumen, will be sorely missed by many.

Came along after Jimmy's days in the Singing Cadets but he was an eternal presence. His sense of humor was welcome and infectious. We will miss him at Reunion. Gods blessings on his family.

Jim was "the old man" and my mentor during my first tour with the Singing Cadets. During my second tour we were among the select group of Cadets who were married, and he and his wife were role models for all.

Many of us Former Singing Cadets remember Jimmy singing "O Happy Day" at our reunions. He certainly is in a better place today. Prayers going up for his family and many friends. What a great guy to remember!

I feel so fortunate to have known Jimmy in the Singing Cadets. I'll remember his voice, his sense of humor and his gracious assistance to each new group of Buffos. Buffo was the term affectionately attached to new members of the Singing Cadets. A buffo is the male singer of comic roles in opera, a clown. Godspeed Jimmy. You will be missed.

I had the privilege of knowing Jim through the Texas A&M Singing Cadets and his great love for music and Texas A&M University. I will forever remember Jim when I hear the Singing Cadets sing "O Happy Day" which he sang every year at reunion.

We are all united not only in our desire to pay our respects to Jim but rather in our need to do so. Following his untimely death, his extraordinary professional contributions are recognized by the deluge of emails, texts, and telephone calls received from friends and colleagues worldwide.
These outpourings of heartfelt thoughts are a more remarkable tribute to Jim than I can ever hope to offer to him as his friend of many years and business partner of ten years.

I only worked with Jim a short time here at ExxonMobil. He is already missed by all his companions here and in the G&C. He was a gentleman and a funny spirit...I liked him greatly.
