James Bullock Obituary

James Bullock
1926-2017
James Bullock, the eldest child of Mary Bullock and affectionately called "J. Bull", was born on August 22, 1926 in Charleston, Mississippi and spent his formative years in Greenwood, Mississippi. James accepted Christ at an early age.
At a young age he became an avid reader and was a master of crossword puzzles which he loved and most often mastered. He completed his primary education in Greenwood, Mississippi before joining the Armed Services. James served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy which enabled him to travel the world. His military services took him to Hampton, Virginia, Great Lakes, Illinois as well as time abroad in Korea and Japan.
James moved to Houston after leaving the military, where he attended Texas Southern University. Upon graduation, he began his career as a supervisor in postal distribution for the United States Post Office. Always looking for a means of improving his mind, James decided to attend law school and enrolled at Texas Southern University. He distinguished himself in law school and graduated in 1970.
After practicing law for several years he returned to TSU as a law professor. James taught contracts, oil and gas, wills and trust, intellectual property, creditors rights and bankruptcy. He had a strong interest in legal education and served for a time as Dean of Admissions for the law school where he helped establish criteria for law school admissions.
James was very active in his professional memberships in the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. He received many professional awards.
In 1977 he married Lois Bullock. Together they founded five distinctive educational enterprises: Educational Learning and Enrichment Center, Inc., The Academy of Accelerated Learning, Inc., Energized for Excellence Academy, Inc., Energized for STEM Academy Inc., and Inspired for Excellence Academy Inc. James served as a wonderful role model and father figure to Joseph Elton Moore, Jr. and Brandon Yorke as well as a loving grandfather to Taylor Moore. Lois and James spent many happy years together and enjoyed working, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. Some of his favorite places which he enjoyed traveling included the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand and Las Vegas. James was also an avid golfer (a lefty) and received many golf awards.
James passed away on February 2, 2017. He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Lois Bullock, surrogate grandson, Brandon Gerald Yorke, granddaughter, Taylor Moore, brother, Edgar (Ed) Bullock (Bella), sister, Dorothy Ann Johnson Maxie (Ira), brother-in-law, Bobby Jackson and cousins, Lela Tyler and Mary Peacock as well as a host of nieces and nephews, friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Elton Moore, Jr. and his beloved mother Mary Bullock.
His visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Both services will be held at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, 3826 Wheeler Avenue, Houston, Texas 77004, Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, Pastor, Rev. Patricia Williams, officiating. My sincere condolences to the family of Professor Bullock. I only just learned of his death and regret that I was unable to pay my respect by attending his "homegoing" services. I knew him as a good and decent man who made learning partnership and agency law simple and fun.

The Lord has put another of his saints to sleep. He has earned is wings. Professor Bullock aka Doc influenced and transformed many lives. He was such a joy to work with. He was always kind and had a joke for you. We would go back and forth when time to submit his grades. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, students and all the lives he touched. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. May God grant the family strength and comfort.

Sincerely

I am so saddened by Professor Bullock's passing. He was a brilliant and gifted teacher that brought depth, passion, and hilarity to the classroom. He was so kind as well. When I asked for his help, he did not hesitate and drove 50 miles to answer questions about oil and gas leases for residents in the tiny town of Kendleton, TX. A great man. God rest his soul.
