Lillian Michael Obituary

On January 14, 2009, LILLIAN (LILLIE) JANE HENDERSON MICHAEL passed away from her earthly life, and into the arms of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Lillie was born on May 17, 1937, in Houston, TX, to Rosalie and H. R. (Buddy) Henderson. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age. Lillie resided in Houston all of her life. On August 7, 1953, she married Larry Willis Michael, and they were married for 53 years, until his death on May 25, 2007. Together, they eventually had three daughters: Donna, Susan, and Virginia (Jenny Beth). Lillie established and operated her own day care center for about fifteen years. Her business was very successful, and she touched the lives of many families through her services. She eventually sold her business and went to work for Gulf Coast Community Services in 1973. She retired in 2004 after about 31 years of faithful service. During that period, she was a center director, and later a licensed social services coordinator. Lillie was dearly loved by her family, friends, and working associates. She was often described as one of the kindest persons the Lord ever created. She touched many lives, will be greatly missed, and definitely remembered as a saint of the Lord. She has left invaluable legacies to her children and grandchildren: Allen Magee, Jennifer Magee, Lara Magee, Rose Janus, and her namesake, Lillian Janus. In fact, she passed away on Lillian's seventh birthday. Lillie was also godmother to Sajini Woodley, who always held a special place in her heart. She always stressed the importance of a good education with her children and grandchildren, and she taught her family to love the Lord. Lillie and her husband were among the original founding of members of The Woodforest Presbyterian Church, where she attended for many years. Lillie was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She also was extremely devoted to the care of her mother in later life, and extended kindness to many people. Her home was forever filled with family, foster children, friends, and she was always thinking of others. As she was passing, she was concerned that tokens of thanks be left for those who had cared for her during her last short hospital stay. Heaven is truly rejoicing that she has come home. Lillie was preceded in death by her loving husband, her mother and father, brothers: Homer Henderson, John Allen Henderson, William (Bill) Henderson, and Glen Henderson; nephews, Calvin Fenley, Jr., and Steven Henderson; and niece, Angela Henderson. She is survived by children and spouses: Donna and Conrad Janus, Susan Michael, Jenny and Marty Engleen; grandchildren and spouses, Allen and Dawn Magee, Jennifer Magee, Lara Magee, Rose Janus, and Lily Janus; great-grandchildren: Whitney Magee, Kaylee Allen, James Magee, and Xander Magee; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Sharon Henderson; and sisters and spouses: Mae and Jerry Kozelsky, and Gloria Palmer; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Henderson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Visitation will be held for family and friends on Sunday, January 18th from 3:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday January 19. Both services will be held at `Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Ms. Lillie was the kindest, most loving gift GOD gave this world. She was like a second mother to me as a teenager. I was always welcome in her home, which was a good thing since I was there everyday. I will greatly miss her, but I know she is with Larry again and is happy. May GOD's ever loving hand guide her loved ones she left behind and ease their sorrow.
