Carlton Batten Obituary

Carlton A. Batten, age 85, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away Sunday, April 13th.
Mr. Batten is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Jere; his children, Debbie Dunlap (husband Russell), Donna Molho (husband Jack Molho), and their mother Barbara Batten; grandchildren Amy Dunlap, Lindsay Sullivan (husband Nick Sullivan), Carly Bradshaw (husband Chad Bradshaw), Charles, Chris, and Catherine Molho; and great grandchildren Mackenzie and Maguire Gholson; Sophie, Brody, and Amelia Sullivan; and Beau Bradshaw.
Born November 19, 1928, in Tabor, Texas to Rufus P. and Jessie Lee Batten, Carl was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Bownds, Ruth Sokol, and Hazel McMillan. He leaves behind sisters Doris Soape, Mary Simpson, Jean Jones, and Catherine Alter, and brother Ron Batten.
Carl grew up in the Bryan/College Station area, attended Texas A & M University, played Aggie basketball, was a member of the Corps of Cadets, and graduated Class of '51 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
From 1951 through 1953, Carl served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S Air Force during the Korean Conflict, stationed in the United Kingdom and Germany.
After the service, he took a job with Imperial Sugar Company, having only one interview right out of the service and accepting the job on a handshake. He would remain with this important Sugar Land company his entire working career, retiring after over 40 years of service.
He was active in the community, serving as a Church Deacon for both the Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land and long-time member of River Pointe Church; President of Sugar Land Lions Club; and President of the Sugar Land Employees Federal Credit Union. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church, Houston, where he met Jere.
Carl enjoyed travelling, spending time with family, watching sports - especially the grandkids' and great grandkids' sports, Texas A&M University athletics and the stock market.
Join us in a celebration of Carl's life with a visitation on Wednesday, April 16, from 4 - 7 p.m. and a funeral service on Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel, 3900 B F Terry Blvd, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
