Jean Cohen Obituary

JEAN LACK COHEN, 82, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, June 19th, near the side of her beloved husband and soulmate for 61 years, Robert Cohen. Loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she refused to let the effects of a crippling stroke change her love of life. "She was like my second mother." This is the way dozens of nieces, nephews and friends will always remember Jean. She loved playing mah jongg, was an avid football fan, and enjoyed her daily telephone chats with friends and family. Jean was born on August 3rd, 1926, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Sam and Bea Lack. She grew up in McAllen, Texas and graduated from McAllen Memorial High School. She attended the University of Texas. In 1948, she married her husband, Bob, and together they raised their two sons in Houston. Her energy and passion was always focused on her family, temple and ever-growing extended family. She was one of the early members of Congregation Emanu El, where her husband served as president. Jean is preceded in death by her sister and best friend Sylvia Lack Aaronson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Cohen; sons, Lance Cohen, Mark Cohen and his wife, Ann; grandchildren Clay, Caroline and Pierce Cohen; brother Stanley Lack and his wife, Helen, brother-in-law Myles Aaronson; six nieces and six nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M, Monday, June 22nd, at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas. Rabbi Roy Walter will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rabbi's Good Works Fund, Congregation Emanu El, 1500 Sunset Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77005. Many thanks to her caregivers, especially Flo, Viola and Maritza, for their compassionate care in her final days.

Bob, Mark and Lance,and family,
Sincerest sympathy for the earthly loss of your beautiful, Jean, exceptional woman, wife and mom. I remember her, Mark and Lance, when working with you, Bob, at Realamerica Corp. back in the 1970's. May the loving memories of her kindness and joyous spirit, bring a smile to your face as you still see her about you. She will never leave you. God Bless you all, Sincerely, Karen Beatty Holleyhead.
