Billye Carroll of Angleton, Texas, passed away in Houston, Texas on February 28, 2015 and is now at rest with her Lord.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Sandy) Carroll Moss and son-in-law John of Houston, Texas, daughter-in-law Susie Carroll and grandson James Taylor Carroll both of Hondo, Texas, her brother, Tommy Scroggin, of Mesquite, Texas and her sister-in-law, Thelma Carroll of Weatherford, Texas. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Billye was predeceased by her loving husband Jack Carroll, their son James Leon Carroll, her sister Susie Buchanan and her parents, Ruby and Wayne Scroggin.
She was born July 11, 1929 in Sulphur Springs, Texas and enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in the piney woods of East Texas. She loved to roller skate and dance, her favorite place in her teenage years was the roller skating rink where she excelled at skate dancing. She met her future husband, Jack Carroll, in Longview, Texas while he was working for Brown & Root at Lone Star, Texas. They married and began a wonderful life working for Brown & Root, moving all over Texas from Longview and up and down the entire Gulf Coast area from Winnie Stowell to Brownsville, even twice transferring to the same town, frequent moves were a normal part of life. They also lived in New Orleans, Mobile, and Tia Juana, Venezuela and were part of the wonderful Brown & Root close-knit family organization for many years until Jack's early retirement, after which they enjoyed the Brown & Root Reunions and meeting up with many dear friends. They loved to water ski, play "42", be with their family and friends; they travelled many a country mile to enjoy Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Billye was a stay at home Mom while raising her family and was always there for her husband and children. She became interested in real estate in the 70's, became a realtor and went on to become a broker/owner of the Century 21 franchise in Angleton, Texas for a number of years where she helped her husband with his dealings in commercial property after his retirement. She still had a current real estate license.
Billye was very active in her local community she was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years, The Texas Federation of Republican Women, The Angleton-Danbury Medical Center Auxiliary, was in charge of the Salvation Army Bell Ringers for years, enjoyed playing in two bridge clubs, loved her Lincoln Town Cars, having her hair done, going out to eat and had a ball with her circle of girlfriends who loved to travel to Las Vegas and beyond. She and her husband Jack were generous to many, though they did not speak of it, being private people.
She was a member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Angleton, having served in many positions both in the church and the church school; she lived her faith every day, loved her church and her many friends there. She was a proud and active second generation member of the Order of Daughters of the King. Lift High The Cross!
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3 from 6-8PM at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. There will be a private family burial Wednesday March 4, followed by a noon service at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, and a reception will be hosted afterwards by The Daughters of the King. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the church she loved, Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 227 S. Chenango St., Angleton, TX 77515.
The family is grateful to The Reverend Travis Smith for his constant concern for Mother during her illness while she briefly lived in Houston pursuing medical treatment; he made frequent trips to Houston to minister to her and her daughter and arrived at her bedside just in time to administer Last Rites. She and our family were supported also by her church and many friends who showed their loving care through cards, letters, personal visits, calls and love gifts; we will never forget you. She so loved looking at her cards and was amazed so many cared for her.
