Victoria Dougan Obituary

Victoria Ann
Dougan "Vicki" at last found her Peace in the late afternoon of December 9, 2013, after a long illness. She died at her home in Sugar Land, TX surrounded by the love of family and friends, including dear husband Rod, and selfless caregiver Brigitte.
Vicki was born October 26, 1950, in Enid, Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma and Kansas public schools, graduating from Shawnee Heights High School, Berryton, KS, in 1968. Vicki married the love of her life, Rodney Dougan, on December 27, 1969, and the couple lived in Kansas and Nebraska before settling in the Houston area in 1976. Vicki was proud to be a long-time resident of Texas!
Her college and advanced degrees were in Interior Design (University of Nebraska, Omaha) and in Computer Programming (North Harris County College) - long before computer programming was fashionable. She was more than good at it, though she joked that she was just skillful enough to get called in the middle of the night to fix the problems others left during the day. Vicki owned her own consulting firm, writing and installing software, and getting us ready for Y2K. Along the way she earned another degree in Computer Aided Design (ITT Tech, Houston). Later, she was awarded the Houston Mayor's Award for volunteer work relocating Hurricane Katrina victims.
Vicki loved to travel, throughout the U.S., in Europe & Asia, and especially to Mexico. She was a world-class seamstress, and, wherever she lived, she maintained the most welcoming home imaginable. Vicki was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Enid, Oklahoma, and later became associated with the First Baptist Church of Topeka.
Vicki is preceded in death by her parents: Herb Thesman and Anna Ruth (Janzen) Thesman, of Enid, OK and Berryton, KS. She is survived: by her husband of 44 years, Rodney D. Dougan of Sugar Land; by her sister, Jan (Jim) Goeller of Tucson AZ; by father-in-law John Dougan and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy and Tom Dougan of Topeka KS, sister-in-law Linda (Jim) Caulfield of California; nephew and nieces Dustin, Lindsay and Adrienne and two grandnieces in Arizona, nephews Scott and Adam and niece Kelly, and three great nephews in Kansas, and nephew Greg in Alaska, by many cousins and friends, and by her beloved dog Muffy.
Special gratitude goes to Brigitte for the loving care she arranged and provided since coming into Vicki's life seven years ago, and to Brigitte's extended family and network of friends including Cheryl, Mary, Dorine, and Inell.
It was Vicki's wish that her body be cremated; no viewing has been planned. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life event in the Houston area in late February or early March.

Rod,
Cathy and I were brokenhearted to hear about Vicki. Even though we hadn't seen her in many years we will always have very fond memories of her and how much fun you guys were in the early Champlin days in Houston. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story about Vicki. Some of this I knew- her decorating and computer talents and of course your love for each other. Vicki was a beautiful lady but I believe as well Rod she has found peace. Your friend, Cathy

So sorry to hear about Vicki passing. I went to church with her at First Baptist. I remember many times we went to the Thesman's home after church on Sunday evenings. Great memories we had together. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family!

I went to The First Baptist Church with Vicki and then to Shawnee Heights High School. I remember her well and have several happy memories of time spent with her. The last time I saw her was at a high school reunion. I am sorry to hear she had been ill for awhile. So sorry for your loss. Candy Alexander Morgan
