Alfred Brammer Obituary
Brammer
Alfred Brammer, much loved husband, father, and grandfather, went peacefully home to be with his Savior on October 23, 2011.
Alfred was born April 3, 1928 in a small mining village in Yorkshire, England. Seeking a better future, he brought his small family to America in 1962 onboard the Queen Mary. They settled in New Jersey and Alfred soon went to work for AT&T as a licensed locksmith. Though self-taught, Alfred rose to become one of the premier tradesmen in New York City. He always enjoyed working with "his locks" and was blessed to be able to retire early, continuing to serve small schools and churches needing his locksmith services. Alfred became a Christian in 1982.
He led an active life right up to his promotion to heaven. He enjoyed assembling challenging jigsaw puzzles, working in his garden, tinkering in his shed, playing Friday night Bingo at St Bartholomew's, bowling in a Thursday morning league, and working on his computer while watching Wheel of Fortune and Fox News. He was an excellent carpenter, building work sheds, garden swings, play houses and small pieces of furniture. A true handyman, he could repair just about anything. Alfred will best be remembered for his dry sense of humor and broad smile, which had earned him the nickname "Happy Bram" since his youth.
Alfred's family is thankful that he was able to be home, sitting in his favorite armchair when he breathed his last breath on this earth. They are especially grateful to his two specialists, Dr. S. Mohammad and Dr. A Drtil, who extended medical services undergirded with love and compassion to Alfred and his family over the years.
Alfred is survived by his wife and dance partner of 62 years, Mary; his daughter Susan Stanley; his granddaughter Jennifer Gordon, the light of his life, and her husband Dr. Danny Gordon, whom he loved as his own grandson. Alfred is also survived by two sisters in England, Doreen and Hilda, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service celebrating Alfred's life. The service will be held on Friday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Katy, 600 Pin Oak Road, Katy TX 77494. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to CHRISTUS St Catherine Hospital Memorial Fund, Attn: D. Mersiovsky, 701 South Fry Road, Katy, TX 77450 .
"Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord - for we walk by faith, not by sight - we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord." (2 Corinth. 5: 6 - 8 NASB).
