Carolyn Dorrell Obituary

Dorrell
Carolyn Arnett Dorrell , 82, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010, in Groesbeck, Texas, following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Marlin, Texas, she graduated from Kosse High School and attended Baylor University for 2 years, where she was a member of the Delta Alpha Pi sorority. She then married Henry Manton Dorrell of Hearne, Texas, in 1948. They resided in Houston, Texas, for 25 years before moving to Kingwood in 1979. Mr. Dorrell, employed by Exxon, was involved in the early developmental stages of the Kingwood Master Plan Community. He worked as the firm's land manager for Friendswood Development Company, a subsidiary of Exxon. Mrs. Dorrell was an excellent homemaker raising 2 boys. She was active in the cattle business for 75 years, owning land recognized by the Texas Department of Agriculture for 155 years of continuous agriculture production by the same family. She was a direct descendent of early pioneers of Limestone County and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lady Houston Chapter, for 40 years. Living in Kingwood for 28 years she was an active member of the Kingwood United Methodist Church. She was a long-time patron of the Junior League tea room. She was also a member of the Kingwood Country Club and enjoyed socializing there with her friends. She loved music, dancing, and old movies.
She was a true matriarch in life, and is remembered fondly by both family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Manton Dorrell, her sister, Katherine Janice Dixon, and her son, Manton Bayne Dorrell. She is survived by her son, John Kevin Dorrell, and her granddaughter, Tessa Bayne Dorrell.
The family will be receiving guests between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3rd. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4th at Brookside Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alzheimer's Foundation of America or Providence Hospice of Waco.
