Walter and I are saddened by the news of Geraldine's death. Her beautiful paintings grace our walls and we enjoy them every day. Walter spent many hours "talking plants" with her. She truly "saved" the Big Thicket and one cannot help but admire a person who lived out their convictions. Geraldine will be missed by many and future generations will benefit from her hard work. May her family be comforted by memories of this amazing life.

Geraldine has been such an inspiration to me. I will treasure her paintings, drawings and books. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of many who continue to enjoy the wildflowers and butterflies at the Watson Preserve.

I loved working with Geraldine on her two books with UNT Press and am so sad I was never able to meet her face to face. A great lady.

Geraldine Watson has been a part of my life since 1965 when she taught art classes at the Silsbee library. She later taught private lessons at her home. Her children at the time were just adorable and would yell when they saw me walking up the driveway "Here comes the Beanie-Weenie!" Her husband Earl - a great guy who rolled with the punches was an understanding and patient man. Her eldest son Bobby who lives in Nevada was so much older - yet he too a part of my memories of the Watson clan. Geraldine wrote a column for the Pine Needle, and had she been able to do so - would have participated in Occupy Wall Street. A public memorial will be held in the near future. Date and time will be announced.
