IRMA JEAN CURTIS

IRMA JEAN CURTIS was born in Lufkin, Texas on January 23, 1934 to Dennie Cook and Irma Jewel Cook (McDuffie). Irma passed away in Huntsville, Texas on January 11, 2010 at age 75.She is preceded in death by parents, mother-in-law Lilla High Curtis Mathis, father-in-law Vernon Curtis and step-father-in-law Oscar Mathis, brother-in-law Melvin High Curtis and step-father Byrd R. Lewis.Irma is survived by husband Max Maurice Curtis, daughter Jewel Monique Curtis, son and daughter-in-law Bryce R. and Yadera Curtis, grandchildren Zaccary Curtis, Brandon Curtis, Seth Curtis and Isabella Curtis, brother and sister-in-law Bill Dennie and Mary Alice Cook and numerous nieces and nephews.Irma Jean graduated from Abilene Christian University with a B.S. in Biology with a Minor in Bible. She went on to be a Medical Technologist at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas working diligently with Dr. DeBakey and Dr. Cooley in experimental research with the first artificial heart transplant team. Irma married Max Curtis and had a daughter and son. She retired from the medical field and became very involved in her daughter and son's activities and education in Garden Oaks Subdivision. Jean was known by relatives and friends for her strawberry-fig preserves and her green thumb for gardening was as green as her Irish heart.Services will be held Monday, January 18, 2010, 2:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville, Texas with Rev. Mark Pickett officiating. Burial will be at Clines Prairie Cemetery in Huntsville.
