Joe,
Your Dad was one of the finest persons I have ever known. He was a major influence in my career with Detroit Diesel and treated me with the greatest respect. I was blessed to have known him for many years. He was a mentor a teacher and a great leader. I think of him often and he will be missed.

Joe I am so very sorry for the loss of your father. I am honored to have met such a wonderful man. Although life has recently taken me far from Texas, it was your father that provided me with the opportunity to follow my career dreams after college. I will never forget your father and what he has meant to my career, but surely I am one of hundreds if not thousands of people that were blessed by "Mr. Manning" and his strong extended family his grand legacy is secure within. God bless you and your family...

Though we are distant in Florida and only recently learned of Mr. Manning's passing...we send our heart felt condolences to Mrs. Manning and the rest of the family. Our entire family has enjoyed the Manning Ranch with Jim and Molly and many relatives. We feel close at heart although distant in miles. May God give you all that peace that passes all understanding in celebrating the good times with a great man whom we all shall miss. Sincerely, the Provows (Grayton Beach, Florida)

Mrs. Manning, Joe, so sorry for your loss. We have lost a true gentleman with his passing. He always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone. If it was business or personal he was always positive with his remarks. I will cherish the short time I got to spend with him in Longview and at the ranch. He was and is an inspiration to me...Glenn & Heather Chatelain

Joe was a wonderful family man, an awesome business man, a great mentor and, above all, a true friend to many. Joe was a family friend and a good friend of my dad, Owen Metcalf for many years. While in the hospital after by-pass surgery, a few years ago, Joe came to the hospital and sat by my bedside most of the day. We reminisced about days gone by and things to come. He really made my day by spending that day with me. That is the kind of man, and friend, Joe was. He was loved and respected by many and he will remain in our hearts forever.

To the Manning family,
Mr. Manning, a wonderful gentleman, shrewd businessman and dear friend. Our family was blessed to know him and just to be around him on many occasions. I will treasure our many dove hunts and all the wonderful "fireside chats" we shared. What he stood for and how he conducted life leaves us all with a challenge going forward. He gave our son the career opportunity that not many get and imparted such great wisdom to us all. This world is a better place because of men like him.

To the Mannings,
Your dad was such a kind man. My fondest memories of Elk Creek include him. I remember when Mr.Manning had us all digging in the side of Sentinel Mountain and finding petrified wood. To this 10 year old girl at the time, it was like discovering Coronado's gold! He was always so sweet and such fun. It's sad for all of us that the original members of Elk Creek are going home - perhaps heaven is like Elk Creek (without the mosquitoes)and these fine men and women are on a fish fry in Elk Park together again. Please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss.

Mr. Manning was a true hero to Stewart & Stevenson and all the people's lives he touched. I remember him coming through the diesel shop at Harrisburg and shaking your hand even though your hands were greasy. He did not care. His thoughtfulness of his employees and their families came from the heart. He will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I am saddened to hear of Joe Sr.'s passing. He was Mr. Detroit Diesel to me. He was always ready to help me in any way he could. He was like a Navy Sea Bee - the difficult was done today and the impossible took a little longer. He showed so many of us the way business should be done and made sure it happened. As a friend, he stood beside me and helped in every way possible. I have known Joe Manning, Sr. for 45 years and my love for him will never end.

It is always a great sadness to see a loved person like Mr. Manning leave our lives.
But then, none of us are here forever. Life in flesh is a temporary state for all of us.
Mr. Manning had such a great life, and I am so blessed and privileged to have had him in my life for 40 years, and I know some day we will all be together again in God’s presence.
What a positive force he was for everyone that he encountered.
In my eyes, Mr. Manning always looked at the positive attributes around him; in people surrounding him and all situations surrounding him. He was such a caring person.
I have so many great memories of Mr. Manning. They will be with me forever.
I know also, that everyone’s life Mr. Manning touched, they will also never forget what a great man he was.
I share the sorrow with you and will dearly miss him, and I share my happiness with you for the great memories of Mr. Manning…. And I also know he is One with God now, and I look forward to the future when we all gather again.

To Norma, Jim and the rest of the Manning family. We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved. I had the fortune of meeting Mr. Manning on several occasions when we were invited out to Splendora by Jim. Everytime we saw him he was always so cordial and nice to all of us. Both Joe and Norma made us feel so welcome. I am sure that he is now with Sam and Verna and they are watching over you. Just rememember: "No life is without purpose, no sorrow goes uncomforted." My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of sorrow. Ken King
