Patricia Whitaker Obituary

PATRICIA ANN BARTLETT WHITAKER entered Christ's eternal Kingdom on Wednesday, December 10, 2003. She was born in Houston, Texas on January 7, 1952, as the oldest child of William Wilson (Bill) Bartlett, Sr. and Marie Tillman Bartlett. Tricia graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education, and was an alumna of Delta Gamma sorority. She was a retired elementary school teacher in both the Fort Bend and Alief School District's, primarily at Lakeview Elementary School. Tricia was a godly, sweet, compassionate Christian woman whose interests were many. One of her greatest delights was children. She loved being a kindergarten teacher who was able to teach and play with the children on their level. At school, church, and home, Tricia touched the life of each child she met. She loved the outdoors, including water skiing and snow skiing. Her newest passion was horseback riding; here, as in other areas, Tricia made new and lasting friendships. Tricia was a member of the River Pointe Community Church and loved her Bible study and women's fellowship groups. Tricia was preceded in death by her loving father, Bill, who welcomed Tricia and her son Kevin to Heaven Wednesday night. Her loving survivors include her husband, Kent Whitaker; her son, Bart; her mother, Marie Bartlett; her brother, Bo Bartlett and wife, Kit; her niece, Katie Bartlett; and nephew, Will Bartlett, her other nephews, Heath and Stephen Whitaker; and niece, Torie Whitaker; and many uncles and aunts; cousins; in-laws and friends too numerous to mention here. All were family to Tricia. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 15, 2003, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Settegast-Kopf Company Funeral Directors at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Sugar Creek Baptist Church, 13303 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery. To honor and remember with thankfulness the lives of Tricia and Kevin Whitaker, memorial gifts may be given to the Building Fund for River Pointe Community Church, 435 Sartartia Road, Sugar Land, Texas, 77479, or to the Memorial Fund for Tricia and Kevin Whitaker at any branch of Southern National Bank. Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I have been thinking of your family all during the holidays. I know it has been tough. I wanted you to know something that is making Trish smile. There are many people out there that are changing their lives because of the way your family lives for Christ. God turns evil into good. New Christians are being born, and weak ones have been made stronger by your loss. Hold on to Him, He will carry you. Thank you for your willingness to live like Christ. What a legacy that Trish and Kevin have left. He has surely said "Well Done, my good and faithful servent.."

Dear Kent and Bart,

I am so very sorry for this tremendous loss. I have taught with Trisha since 1997 and she was always full of joy and smiles. My daughter is now in first grade and she knew Mrs. Whitaker very well too. She is hoping that Trisha is enjoying her first Christmas with Jesus. My students that knew her were deeply saddened and placed a tiny angel on our class tree for her.

The service was beautiful and uplifting. It is so hard not to feel selfish and wish they were still with us. I know that Trish will always be watching over our students and enjoying the laughter of the children. My family will have you in our prayers in the months to come.

Kent & Bart,

What a beautiful service today that honored Trish & Kevin, but most of all honored our Lord! My heart and prayers are with you both. Trish took care of my kids while I was preparing for my wedding last month, and she was so gracious to make the 3 hour trip to Nacogdoches to see Jason & I get married. My fondest memory is actually tangible - a book that Trish created with my students to congratulate us on our marriage. I will always hold that near and dear to my heart. The kids send their love and prayers, as well - they so enjoyed having her as a teacher. God bless both of you during this holiday season with a peace that passes ALL understanding!

Dear Kent & Bart,

I am so sorry for your loss. Trisha was my first mentor teacher at Lakeview Elem. her last year teaching. Wow, what a class. She never lost her cool and treated those children like angles. She also gave me the encouragement I needed to become a patient teacher. I am now a full time first grade teacher at Lakeview because of Trisha.God Bless your family, you are in my prayers.

Trish was my son's kindergarten teacher at Lakeview. He took the news hard. He came up with the idea that, in memory of Trish and Kevin, we will be leaving 2 candles burning through Christmas. We will never forget the impact Trish had on all the kids at Lakeview.

I remember going to Kent's apartment off of I-10 nearly 30 years ago and seeing Trish's name painted on his wall at a 45 degree angle and in a GT racing stripe style, and learning a lesson in love and passion that has served me well and obviously served Kent very well for all this time. Your losses are our losses and we love and support you and Bart always. Our prayers go out to you.
