Ruby Cook Obituary

Cook
Ruby Lee Duff Cook, 103 of Austin, Texas - 4/2/1908 - 10/2/2011
Ruby Lee was born in Llano, Texas. Her father was a farmer and oil field worker.
She died in her own bed at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living, Houston, after a long eventful life. She is predeceased by husband Elmo V Cook and daughter Betty Cook, and parents John Henry and Julia Tompkins Duff. Survived by daughter Deanna Cook Murphy and husband James, Houston, 4 grand children: Shannon Sedwick and husband Michael Shelton of Austin, Michael Sedwick and wife Katherine of Minneapolis, MN, Karen Murphy Brennan and husband Eugene, Houston, Craig Cook Murphy and wife Patricia, Houston. 7 great grandchildren: Annie and Rachel Sedwick, Susannah and Noah Shelton, Murphy Brennan, Christina and Thomas Murphy.
Ruby Lee was a lady of great presence, ability, charm and wit. Gregarious - she read the newspaper aloud to her fellow residents at Colonial Oaks and played dominoes often including the day before she died. Frugal for herself, generous to others. She loved cooking, deer hunting, waltzing, babies, reading, gardening and golfing. She hated the squirrels who stole her pecans from the 3 trees Elmo had grafted with paper shell varieties. She believed in the Golden Rule, fairness, and respectable behavior.
A memorial service and reception with her family will be Monday, Oct 10, 2:00 p.m., at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, 77079 in the Friendship Court.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the "LTR Scholarship Fund" and sent to:

I shall continue on for her in the generosity towards others and the hate of the squirrels that eat the pecans of my 13 trees. Well wishes family of Mrs Cook
