Dr. Gonzalez was my attending physician in 2000 for my lifesaving liver transplant. He was my rock- he simply would not let me give up, and I always appreciated his humor. It's been 23-1/2 years since my transplant, and my memories of him still live in my memory. There's a beautiful biblical passage that describes him perfectly: "The upright man walks in his integrity" (Proverbs 20:7). We will say the Rosary for Dr. Mario today, and for all who love him. Because of the Sacrifice of the Savior, Jesus Christ, we will see our brother again. God's blessings, Steve Foster, Friendswood, Texas

Dr. Gonzalez was my attending physician in 2000 when I survived a lifesaving liver transplant. I still think of him often. He was always encouraging. Once, after he had extracted a few liters of fluid from my lungs, he joked: "See. I helped you lose weight. Now you're 31 pounds lighter!". I laughed. He was a great physician, and I think God put him in my life. He and his family will always be in my prayers. God's peace, Steve Foster, Friendswood, Texas

I rotated through the Critical Care unit as a medical student and saw the features that everyone describes here - his energy, gentleness, compassion seemed to be endless. We say humble, and he was, but it was really a bold display of a caring and gracious man. To think of him being gone is unbelievably sad. I pray that his absence will encourage many hospital staff members to themselves be attentive, and kinder, and more patient to "fill in" the hole of his absence, and thereby "grow" and magnify the effect of his gentle spirit. May his family stand tall and proud, and allow their memories, and a dedication to his spirit help in their healing. May God be with you.

Dr. Gonzalez was my attending physician in 2000 when I survived a lifesaving liver transplant. He was funny, and always encouraging. One Sunday morning at 3:45 a.m. (when I was very near death), he showed up at my bedside in ICU dressed in golf clothes. He explained: "I'm on my way to the golf course, but was concerned about you & thought I'd check on you first". That's the way he was. We said the Rosary for Dr. Gonzalez, and will keep all who love him in our prayers. May God bless and keep you, and may the Blessed Mother welcome Dr. Mario into the Kingdom of God! Dear Children of Dr. Gonzales, I want you to know how your Father touched me and my Mother. I only had about 5 appointments with Dr. Gonzales. He was treating my Mother. I can't believe how devastated I am about his death. He was warm, brilliant, caring, funny....... a man whom I will never forget. I hardly knew him but yet I feel like I lost a family member. He had charisma. I can only imagine how loving he was with you. The world has lost a wonderful man. Terri S.

Dr. González has surely found the transition to angel to be quite seamless. I will never forget his kindness and caring during the week preceding my beloved husband’s death. All of us whose lives he touched ache for his family, share their grief and pray that they find comfort in having been loved by a man of his caliber. There are no words to express the tragedy of his death, both to the medical community and to the human race.

Mario Gonzalez was a very kind and humorous physician who always treated the staff (no matter what their title), with respect. He made an effort to greet everyone on the unit with a hello or a pat on the back. I'll always remember how important and respected he made me feel when he would come to our unit and have me make rounds with him on all his patients, regardless if I was caring for them or not.
He is one of the "good guys" that I will always remember from my days as a Methodist Hospital Nurse.
My deepest sympathy and prayers to his wife, children, family, patients and all the great staff at Methodist Hospital. He will always be remembered and deeply missed.

we were in shock when we heard about DR. GONZALEZ and how his most precious life was snuffed out. I had the honor and priviledge of knowing him 9 yrs ago when he absolutely saved my precious daughter's life after she was transferred to methodest critical care from another hospital. it involved tedious surgery to remove part of her diseased lung. our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family. he was "ONE OF A KIND" rose lipe and daughter susan hardin. Dr. Gonzalez took excellent care of my mother at Methodist Hospital. She very much enjoyed meeting him with his warm manner. She shared some light moments with him during a difficult time, talking about her visit to his native country. He worked agressively to try to save her life. I am eternally grateful to him for his persistence and his commitment to patient care.
May his family find healing over time and peace in knowing he is in heaven at rest. Thank you Dr. Gonzalez, may you rest in peace.

Mario Gonzalez was a class act, along with a wonderful physician. The best of the best. I have known him since he was a fellow at Baylor. He has also taken care of my ex-husband for many years. After being treated for pneumonia several times within a few months we were referred to Dr. Gonzalez for my mother's care. Within days he diagnosed her with Bronchiolitis Obliterans with Organizing Pneumonia (BOOP) and began treatment. At that time he told us this was a very rare condition and that there were only about 10 people in the world that suffered with it. She always looked forward to her visits as he treated her as if she were his only patient and he never gave up. It is because of his care that we were given almost ten more years with mom. I know God has a reason for everything He does, even when He takes the very best. My heart goes out to all his patients who must know they've lost a wonderful Dr. as it does to you, his family, in the loss of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. I know mom has greeted him with open arms, as she, and we, loved him as if he was part of our family, and he was.
Take comfort in knowing that one day, you will be together, again. May God Bless You and be with you at this time and until you are together in eternity.

My sister was a patient of Dr. Gonzales. During our long hospital stay he became not only her doctor but a part of our family. He always gave us hope even when she lost her fight. He was the only doctor who believed in her and life flighted her in. He never gave up and always made sure my sister had the best team taking care of her. He was a believer in miracles and gave us a few extra months to spend with her. And for that we are eternally grateful. We are so sorry to hear of his recent passing, it does not seem fair for a man who helped so many. God Bless you and thank you for your gifts. Misty, Ashley, Janice and Werner

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Dr. Gonzalez was a great Doctor and will be greatly missed by the medical community as well as all of his patients. Dr. Gonzalez was a wonderful doctor and an even better man. He had a special gift for always making you feel important and appreciated as a member of the healthcare team. Grief and sadness; these words are not good enough to express how I feel about his loss. I am eternally grateful for the time I had with Dr. Gonzalez and will never forget the things he taught me about medicine and life. I pray that God will comfort his family and friends in this time of such terrible loss. May He help us come to terms with this senseless tragedy. May Dr. G's sons grow to know what a wonderful man their father was and how many people truly loved him.
Dr. Gonzalez, I will miss you! We will miss you! Please, continue to guide our hands and our hearts as we care for your patients.

My family was blessed to have Dr. Gonzalez treat my father, L.Z. Bryan, and I am blessed to have met him. When I first met him, he said he was praying to find a solution to Dad's problems. Dr. Gonzalez saved my life. Although I was his patient for only a short time, he was so dynamic and pro-active.
I had just been diagnosed with lung cancer and was referred to him for tests to see if the cancer had spread and if I was a good candidate for surgery. When he saw that I was, he said, “Wait here.”
He went into the corridor and quickly returned with Dr. LaFluente, the surgeon. Together they scheduled the operation for the following morning – and here I am 2 ½ years later.
He will truly be missed – he had so much to offer the world. God bless him.

My wife was a patient of Dr. Gonzalez for eight years. We both absolutely adored him because of his knowledge and for his kind and gentle spirit. Mrs. Gonzalez and Gonzalez Family,
Heartfelt sympathy to Dr. Gonzalez's family and friends. Words seen so useless at a time like this, but I had to let you know how much Dr. Gonzalez meant to us. My mother was a patient of Dr. Gonzalez and we had just seen him last week for an appointment. Dr. Gonzalez was an extraordinary doctor who will never be forgotten. There was such a contagious enthusiasm about him. He was always very kind and patient with all my questions and concerns. He had a way of making you feel like you were the most important patient of all. May your wonderful memories of him give strength to you and the family in the days ahead. We feel privileged to have known him.
Very Sincerely,

As a nurse I worked with Dr. Gonzalez for the past 12yrs. I have always noticed how much and how well he cared for his pt.'s. He even help our unit with code pt.'s even if they were not his own and continued to follow the pt.'s. I will and have already missed him on our unit. Last night, I dedicated The Joyful Mysteries of The Rosary to him as he brought our family great joy and hope. Dr. Gonzales and his loved ones will remain in our prayers. His memory will always remain in a special place in our hearts.
God bless you,
Jean Luchi, M.D.

My daily thoughts and prayers are with Dr. G's family, staff, colleagues, and patients. This is a devastating loss for us all and it will take a long time for us to recover. I can not believe that we will never again hear him say "Hello Professor"! Sadly, Lynn w/Dr. Richard Geis (Methodist Hospital)
