1988-2016
Joel Scott Moreland, 28, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016. He was born June 13, 1988 in Houston, TX to parents, Scott & Mona Moreland.
Joel is survived by his parents; sister, Virginia McMullen & husband William; nieces, Vivienne Ann, and Elizabeth Wynn McMullen; grandparents, Betsy Moreland, Ramona Carter, Victor & Trish Dawson; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Joel had a 10 year career in the radio industry for many major stations in the Houston area, where he made numerous friends and touched many lives. He started while attending Alvin Community College and continued while he was pursuing his degree at the University of Houston. His caring and giving nature in life continued even after God called him home, as he donated a part of himself to the UT Health and Science Research Center.
A memorial service for Joel will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2 PM in the chapel of Heights Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that monetary donations be made to 89.3 KSBJ radio station.

We grieve with you as you endure the great loss of your son, brother, and grandson. I thought so much about the impact of Joel's life as so many have shared how he made them feel - important, special, worth doing life with. His was clearly a life well lived as his greatest efforts were invested in his friends and family. Many spend a lifetime with far less impact, but Joel seemed to understand the great value of people. He generosity of spirit lives on in the multitude of those who received his kindness, time, listening ear, humor, sacrifice, and love. I didn't know Joel very well but when he began working at KSBJ several years ago I was on my way out and had the privilege to train him. I remember him being very thankful and we followed each other around on Facebook after that. He was kind, diligent, listened well and went on to do more in the industry than I did.
